MSG NEWS 2013:

Last day edition:

Pending tonight's games, our player of the month and first star for the second month of the season is a goaltender, but not the league points leader, Mike Smith. NO. Eddie Lack is the frontrunner going into tonight's final day of action in December. Eddie was acquired December 6th and has put up 65 points so far for the Rangers. This entirely unexpected turn of events is enough to have him one point out of the highest of the month on the team, and good enough for the backup to earn First Star honours. However, as I said there is one more night of action, and it is a night off for the young Swede. Meanwhile all of his closest competition for the honour of First star take the ice tonight.

Mike Smith, Joe Thornton, Andrej Sekera, Jarome Iginla, Jiri Hudler, Thomas Vanek all have potential to post extraordinary numbers in a single game, and that could change the complexity of the Three Stars of December for the New York Rangers!

Tune in for all the action and followup commentary this evening as MSG NEWS 2013 ends its own publication season and the Rangers turn a new leaf in the new year. MSG NEWS will be retired and a new splash-news page will be unveiled for our fans.

More updates and another trade to come, but on the way out for the morning before work later. Next chance I get I will finish the updates and clarify the UFA discussion in greater detail, but the short version is that it is different from last year and works pretty much exactly as it reads in the CBA.

4.5 – Extensions

Beginning on March 5, 2014, a player whose contract is expiring at the end of the year can be approached regarding signing an extension. Teams are permitted to enter formal negotiations with one player and can inquire about 3 other players regarding their contract desires before the end of the season. After the regular season ends, teams may open formal negotiations with up to 6 players, but remember only a handful may sign extensions. When negotiating an extension with a player that has played with your club for the entire season, teams may offer up to an 8 year contract term if desired.

March 5 - End of regular season: Full negotiations with 1 player, preliminary discussions with 3 others.

End of regular season - Free Agency: Full negotiations with up to 6 players, preliminary discussions not limited.

Also, with theministers vacation coming up soon (or already started, not sure?), teams can begin sending their IR requests to me while he is away. Any IR requests that haven't been posted yet can also be forwarded to me. Those requests will be backdated to their original request date provided the time stamp on the original post is visible, otherwise they will be dated for the day I receive them.

Ok, I appreciate the clarity, means I did read this correctly. Thanks again.

SIGNING: The Philadelphia Flyers have signed unrestricted free agent forward Chris VandeVelde to a two year deal.

Chris VandeVelde: 2 years, $ 1.5 million dollar contract ( $ 750,000.00 per season ).

The Flyers are very pleased to welcome Chris to the organization and look forward to him joining the roster for the upcoming games.
