C2X-Lund's Rumour Report!!

With the trade deadline less than 50 days away and the playoff races heating up, the rumors are coming fast and furious. Don't forget to check out the Rumour Mill on page one for the latest! Talking to some sources over dinner, but for now, I'll leave you with some of the rumours I've been chasing down over the past few days.

- Boston is having a fantastic season so far, sitting 3rd overall with a productive and balanced roster. But some sources claim that they may be losing their patience with Cam "Mr. Injured Reserve" Ward, and may look to upgrade their goaltending for the playoffs. One source linked them to Edmonton, where it's believed Henrik Lundqvist may be available.

- The Sabres, perennial contenders in the post season, have been talking trade for a few weeks now, and my sources have them connected to teams in the Western Conference, most notably Los Angeles and Colorado. Hearing this could be a 'set up' deal that may lead to some bigger pieces being dealt later on down the line, but for now, it seems Marek Zidlicky is the most likely candidate to be trade bait. Zidlicky's playoff participation may be in question, but his production would certainly suggest there is a market.

- Colorado continues to insist they will not be a selling team this season, despite the fact the club continues to underachieve after a hot start. There's still time, and sources claim that the Avs have been working the phones trying to complete some deals to bolster the lineup for the stretch run. Despite numerous offers from teams for blue liner Brent Seabrook, it's been made clear to teams that inquire that the former Olympic gold medalist is not available, save for a kings ransom type offer. If the Avs continue to slip further from the playoff bar, one has to wonder if that stance will soften any?

- The Florida Panthers sit comfortably at the top of the league, but their GM has never been one to shy away from making a deal. Michael Del Zotto is rumored to be available, but reports indicate that nothing serious has been discussed of yet. One source speculated that if another GM doesn't have a Hawk or Senator in the package, it's tough to get a deal done with the Panthers. I immediately re-named this source in my phone to "Captain Obvious". In other news, water is wet. Sometimes I wish I had real sources... but I digress.

- The City of Brotherly love has been a hotbed of trade rumor and speculation since their GM change and roster turnaround. With the new GM still addressing issues with the roster, it's almost a given that more deals will be coming. With top center Mikko Koivu currently injured, do the Flyers have many pieces left to deal with, or is too much too soon going to be more hindrance than help? They've been linked to Western teams, notably the Jets, Flames and Oilers. Sources claim they've had 'serious' talks with one of those clubs to bring in a star player, but the only details they could offer is that it may be a 2 for 2 type deal. Keep an eye on the Flyers as the deadline approaches.

- Along the West Coast, the Sharks have cooled after a very strong start but are still in solid shape coming into the stretch drive. Sources claim they've made inquiries around the league to boost their defence for the playoffs, but talks seem to remain stalled in that regard. It's also been suggested that the club is looking to make an upgrade in goal, although no sources could verify this for me. Continuing to chase this one for now.

- Hearing the Jets are looking to boost their attack, especially on defence, as the playoffs near. The Jordan Eberle rumours just won't seem to die off, with one source telling me a deal 'could be done before the Olympic break'. Eberle is a rare type of player, so it's not surprising that every source I talk to agrees that the asking price for him is very high. The Jets would also love to add a playoff defenceman before the deadline. Is it one deal they are looking at, or are there multiple deals in the works in Manitoba?

Waiting to hear back from more sources, tracking potential deals involving Montreal, Nashville and Pittsburgh. Stay tuned!

Not really sure what else Toffoli has to do to stay in the NHL... 17 points in 33 games while playing around 10 mins a night.. only a minus player once in 33 games.. sigh. Hopefully Neal's injury is just short term and Helm gets his butt back in the lineup.

Never comfortable ;)

The point about the Sens/Hawks is valid though... PM me if you're moving a Hawk or Sen :bigblush:

Despite last nights lack of offence I remain solidly behind my guys, I don't foresee moving any blockbusters, however news that Sheldon Souray's recovery is not going as well as originally expected has led our front office to seek 'offence' from other areas, notably, the offence. Souray is recovering from off-season surgery to repair a torn tendon in his hand, and is not expected back on the blueline until after the Olympics if at all this season. As he did a lot of the scoring work from the back end, the Rangers may be looking for an upgrade on the third line to compensate for the unexpected and ongoing loss.

Rumor:

The sharks appear to be circling the Habs, as multiple GM's have apparently been kicking the tires on the availability of Montreal's best players as their season continues to stagnate near the bottom of the standings. But with many of these players locked up long -term and with various NTC/NMC's, sources suggest that major offers will be required in order to convince Habs GM _arby_18 to even consider approaching those players to see if they'd waive. And even then, it's unlikely as these players were targeted and signed to these deals with the long-term vision of them being here for many years.

As for players without no-trade clauses? Sources suggest that all of them could be had for the right price. Likely playoff-bound players like Matt Greene and Eric Condra are certainly available while veterans on bubble teams like Erik Cole and Shawn Horcoff are as well.

Rumour:

With the Philadelphia Flyers remaining outside of the playoff race, veteran players such as Andrew Ference and Mikhail Grabovski may be in play as the Flyers continue to seek a revamp ahead of next season. Players on playoff teams such as Brian Gibbons may also be available, for the right price, although GM Azzy is believed to harbour faint hopes of gaining a playoff spot this season.
