Very pleased to bring such a versatile player like Jamie into our organization. He can play anywhere from 1-3 and be effective. Jamie is tremendous as both ends of the ice and will add a tremendous dynamic to our hockey club. Though we lost great young defensive talent in this deal, we feel that Brian makes up for it, he is a defender with great size and good skill and have high hopes for him.

Firstly the Flames would like to thank all out going players for there time with our club and wish them well on their new teams. We decided to pull the trigger on these deals because they all offered us the opportunity to acquire strong young talent. We are especially excited to have Danny Kristo and Mikhail Grigorenko for our forward ranks and Ruhwedal, Del Zotto and Stone to strengthen our blueline and we will have our scouting staff working overtime for the draft.

We would like to wish Jamie (again) and Brian well in Florida. Jamie was an original Lightning that we were happy to bring back, but with our team in playoff limbo yet again, we wanted to explore some moves that could improve our team beyond this season.

We would also like to wish Mikhail well in Calgary. We never doubted his talent, however we felt that the opportunity to acquire Ryan Strome was too good to pass up. We firmly believe that Mikhail is top-end talent and has a bright NHL future, and will continue to track his progress as a fan.

We would like to welcome Ryan and Josh to our organization. With our core built around young Islanders like John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, we know our locker room will be welcoming and receptive to our newcomers and our organization will do everything it takes to let them succeed.

With these moves, we feel we are primed for now and the future, with Tavares-Bozak-Hertl-Bailey-Strome-Desjardins-Sheppard all capable of playing down the middle.

Depth Chart:

Stalberg - Tavares - Okposo

Bailey - Bozak - Havlat

Torres - Desjardins - Clutterbuck

Omark - Sheppard - Bissonnette

Johnson

Hedman - Boyle

Josi - De Haan

Hannan - Belov

The New York Rangers

Three Stars: January

FIRST STAR

Thomas Vanek

Thomas has overcome injury and a change in circumstance on the ice (traded to the NHL's Islanders) and come out shinning in January. With 6 goals, ten assists and a whopping 24 points from the plus/minus, it is clear why Thomas Vanek is an All Star Calibre player and our First Star of January. We are very proud to say that Thomas Vanek will be at the Olympics with team Austria, for their first appearance since a 12th place finish in 2002.

SECOND STAR

Andrej Meszaros

Since joining the squad early in December Mesz has put up 98 points, and 76 of them this month. Outstanding offence from the blueline from this Slovakian Olympian. 3 goals and 8 assists gave Mesz a leg up on fellow Olympian and another Andrej, our third star.

THIRD STAR

Andrej Sekera

For the third month in a row, Andrej Sekera ranks as a Star for the New York Rangers. Joining the other Rangers Olympians to round out January's list. Andrej recorded 1 goal, 7 assists and 24 points from the plus/minus. It is crystal clear why Andrej Sekera is going to Sochi and why the Rangers traded for him back in August.

Honourable mentions to Joe Thornton with 68 points, Mike Smith with 59 pool points on a somewhat down month and Mikael Backlund with 52 pool points in a month that really saw him come alive with 6 goals and 4 assists in January.
