So, are we allowed to talk to one guy now? Did I understand that right?

Beginning on February 15, 2014, teams can hold preliminary discussions with 2 players of their choice (ballpark figures only, no full negotiations take place). Then, beginning on March 5, 2014, teams are permitted to enter formal negotiations with one player and hold preliminary discussions with an additional 2 players regarding their contract desires before the end of the season. After the regular season ends, teams may hold formal negotiations with up to 6 players, but remember only a handful may sign extensions. When negotiating an extension with a player that has played with your club for the entire season (beginning Oct. 1, 2013), teams may offer up to an 8 year contract term if desired.

Assignment: The Habs assign Eric O'Dell to North Dakota (does not require waivers).

Recall: Montreal recalls Anthony Peluso from the Fighting Sioux.

The Habs are very pleased to have acquired TJ Brodie yesterday, as we had been on the lookout for a young blueliner who was able to play big minutes and grow with our young team. With guys like Johnson, Kulikov, McBain, Postma, Olsen and now Brodie, our blueline has never looked younger and stronger in our opinion. We are also very pleased that Zach Redmond made it through waivers as we still have high hopes for him down the line but had no room for him on our active roster.

To make room for these moves, we had to deal Shawn Horcoff and Kevin Connauton and lost Nick Schultz to waivers (who ended up in Philly anyways), and we wish them all well in City of Brotherly Love.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Habs would like to inform the other teams that they would consider moving any and all veterans who may be on or dealt to playoff teams in the next week, and that any teams looking to get some value for pending UFA's that they don't think they can re-sign should contact Montreal as we would be very interested in picking up a guy to see if he'd sign on here.

one question regarding free agent re-sinings

since we have this 6 (7) players rule..

example...what if a player like sulzer is not one of those 6/7 (1 before the season ends/ 6 after the end of the season if got it correct) players that we want to re-sign and he does not find a new team in the off season and we are still interested in him..what happens?
