I completely forgot! Hunter was lighting it up, it's too bad about the injury. Could something like this work?

sedin sedin jenson

shinkaruk horvat vrbata

Baertschi bonino burrows

dorsett gaunce Virtanen/Kass

are we going for the first overall pick?

Virtanen can't play in the ahl next season.

Thats why I said the A or Junior. Wasnt specifically talking about next year. I overall dont want to see him come here and play 8 minutes a night till he has at least 2 years of A under his belt and has subsequently gotten most of what he can get from there.

WARNING: Long post, I'll throw it in a spoiler box.

I think this is as good as it's going to get next season, at least to start, barring trades, injuries, and other variables we can't predict:

Daniel - Henrik - Vrbata

Baertschi - Bonino - Kassian

Burrows - Horvat - Hansen

Higgins - [Open spot] - Dorsett

I don't know why I should expect any different after what I've seen this past year. It would be great to bring in Shinkaruk but I don't think it happens unless we trade Higgins, move Burrows down to the 4th line, and slot him in LW beside Horvat on the 3L. Like I've mentioned, there's no point using a skill player like him on the 4th line when there are big-minute opportunities in the AHL. Also, I'm not even taking into account Ronalds Kenins, who may re-sign. Vey is probably going to get re-signed (...) and used as our 4C but until it's actually done I'll leave that spot open.

I'm not sure there's a core player we can actually move aside from Higgins and Hansen (remember, there are no-trades involved and there is a team on the other end of the deal). Higgins getting moved makes room for Shinkaruk, and Hansen getting moved makes room for one of Jensen, Virtanen and perhaps Grenier, who is hopefully re-signed. We are likely not re-signing Richardson or Matthias who are penalty killers, like Higgins and Hansen, so our PK will take a big hit before we could even trade anyone. In a world where we trade Higgins and Hansen and get Grenier re-signed, I think this is a reasonable line-up that could start next season:

Daniel - Henrik - Vrbata

Baertschi - Bonino - Kassian

Shinkaruk - Horvat - Dorsett (Willie is going to put at least one veteran on that line to start.)

Burrows - [Open spot] - Grenier

Shinkaruk and Grenier up with the team also opens up spots with the Comets for Fox or Blomstrand on LW and Valk on RW.

I'm more interested to see what happens with the defense where Corrado (seriously) deserves to be a regular and Clendening is not exempt from waivers. Weber is likely to be let go which opens up just one RD spot. Tanev just got locked to a long-term deal and Bieksa is not likely to waive with just 1 year left. On LD, Edler still has 4 years left, Hamhuis will play out the final year of his deal (like Bieksa), and Sbisa... we all know the deal. Stanton (who I'm certain Benning forgot we had /sarcasm) may re-sign but you wonder if he would be fine with being a healthy scratch most nights. There will be turnover in 2016/17 because I cannot fathom why we would re-sign Hamhuis and Bieksa, but I've been meh-to-displeased with Benning's signings so far so I won't count anything out... Those are prime spots that will hopefully be available.

As long as guys who can't skate like Bieksa and Higgins are gone everything else will take shape.

Also Corrado and Clendening should both be top six locks on d next year if Bieksa doesn't want to waive he can sit in the press box.

Trade Higgins to the Islanders for a 3rd round pick or something.

Really?? explain your logic. We Obviously need more youth in the lineup and the jensen prediction is a stretch but you cant say a 4th line of dorsett, prospect or gaunce with virtanen is weak and tell me what is wrong with shinkaruk, horvat with vrbata. My lineup is not too different with this years im basically just adding shinkaruk for higgins and moving everybody around. I really don't understand how 2 ppl were that mad about that lineup

I've got Kassian/Vrbata swapped but otherwise that's basically what I see as well up front.

I could see us re-signing Richardson for 4C if they don't think anyone else is quite ready (prospects) or better (UFA).

Higgins could be moved to make room for Kenins or Virtanen (one of Hansen/Dorsett would need to play LW if Virt makes it). But I'd not be remotely surprised to see him where you have him slotted (where he'd likely do much better in a less offensive role).

But as you say, the D is the most interesting and clearly needs the most work. As much as I love him, Bieksa likely has to go.

Edler, Green(?)

Hamhuis, Tanev

Sbisa, Corrado/Clendening/Weber

Stanton, Corrado/Clendening/Weber

Lack, Markstrom

Shink, while possibly ready...will have to wait another year and likely be 1st call up for the top 6.

I can see Shinkaruk making the team next year, however only if his training camp is "spectacular." Our prospects are indeed exciting and I can't wait to see who we pick this year. IMO this is what we will look like post Sedin era:

Shinkaruk-???-Virtanen

Baertschi-Horvat-Kassian

Gaunce-McCann-Jensen

Kenins-Cassels-Grenier

I still believe we need that true first line centre. Bo could have it in him however I see him being more of a excellent second liner. Kesler quality. As for Cassels he has the offensive upside to play up in the lineup, however with our centre depth I believe 4th/3rd is where he will play and gaunce will be moved to the wing in favour of McCann. I also have a good feeling about Shink and Virtanen, if mixed with a good play making centre (Barzal) the trio could be lethal. Size, speed, smarts and skill.

I Think we might draft a better left winger than bear and shinky.

I was watching some of the highlights and post game vids and it's still great to see just how excited Shinkaruk gets. After the win when everyone's on the ice, Shinkaruk grabbed someone and had them in a good natured but excited headlock (I think Baertschi) and when they were heading back to the dressing room, you can hear Shink 'Woo!"-ing a few times. He just runs on energy that guy.

Something the canucks have been missing since 2011, a little passion and excitement. Horvat brought some of that this year but shinkaruk seems to be built on the stuff

That's another reason that team was so good because we had guys like Luongo, Kesler and even Lapierre who had a cockiness and swagger to them.

The only one on our team who has that right now is Kassian imo, and Horvat to some extent. Virtanen and Shink have that also, once they're on the team it's going to be fun to watch.

Don't forget about Raffi! Torres brought a lot of energy to the '11 Canucks team, plus his goal celebrations in the playoffs were some of the best I've ever seen from a Canuck.
