Canuck Surfer
Where exactly did my comment contradict that? Adding a bunch of upper body bulk would not be helpful. He certainly will need to get stronger up there but bulk is the opposite of what he should be doing with his upper body. His core and legs however should be a chunk of carved granite. You are missing the point? Shinkaruk simply did not have the physical advantages, of speed and quickness, he had in junior. And he looks under trained. Maybe there is a correlation? Look at St Louis above ^. Sure his legs are of beast and his core is granite. You're not wrong these are focal points. His arms still look like they could win a few arm wrestles against guys a lot bigger. Some guys just got to get in the gym if they are going to make it... Alflives
St.Louis didn't play his first full season in the NHL until he was 25. Hunter's got plenty of time to bulk up. Wow! I didn't know that. 25 is a lot of development. Hunter is only 20. Yup, let's be patient, and maybe we have something special?
Canuck Surfer
Can anyone not look at the pictures, just the forearms, biceps and arms; and not deduce that one guy is way better trained than the other? DeNiro is right. He has time. But that boy has to get in the gym! Nave
I have not heard this term before: 8 way mobility. Please explain it? Thanks:) In ice hockey you don't just skate forwards, to the sides, and backwards--you skate north west, north east, south west, south east. Hence, 8 way mobility. Shink is great at changing directions, and can turn on a dime to throw defencemen off. The way he swivels his hips on the rush in the defensive zone routinely forces defencemen to open up towards him to remain square, which may distract them from seeing other forwards. Or, just put them in an uncomfortable position. However, at the NHL level, Shink may be washed out doing this. Nonetheless, the hip surgery affected his mobility. Now that he has that back, he could be even more dangerous this preseason than in year's past.

Nobody's saying he doesn't need to continue to hit the gym but maybe we can give him a couple years before we start labeling him as a lazy bum unwilling to put in the work? A lot of guys that are thin/wiry types, particularly at that age, have a LOT of trouble putting on any meaningful muscle mass.

aGENT
I still have trouble... fat on the other hand... Yeah I'm short and stocky and in my younger days I used to exercise with a tall, lanky friend. I barely had to do more than just look at a weight and I'd gain muscle mass. Him on the other hand would lift and lift and he'd just get toned. Pissed him off to no end Let's see a shirtless pic of MSL playing at the U of Vermont around 20 years old and compare...lol

It is frustrating. MSL has ridiculous work ethic, and I see the same passion in Shinkaruk. Not sure if he'll ever get that strong though. MSL's core strength is something else; let alone his legs.
