UFCanuck
Confirmation bias does not require a decision to be made a specific point in time. Rather it is just simply one biasing their previously held beliefs, it doesn't necessarily require action. I did not say that confirmation bias has anything to do with Benning disliking Gillis' prospects, rather that Benning's would think highly of his own prospects. He already traded one his picks. He decided to move Forsling and hang on to Gillis picks, Corrado, Subban and Hutton.
bobbyg43
probably best thing to play in utica for at least another year if canucks dont unload him in some future deal. This kid may have to work his tail off an prove JB an co that he is gonna compete an play at the top level, each an every shift, with size not being a detriment to his compete levelto be being successfull. Some how I have a hunch JB is not gonna keep him regardless of his development an improvement overall. 73 Percent
The drive from this kid! I love it. So tired of our usual boring "I'll do whatever the Canucks ask me, whenever they think im ready I'll play, yada bla bla". This kid is going to try and force a spot. Publicly announcing that he's gunning for someone's job. How cam you not love this kid.
Nave
I really hope he makes the team and actually sticks. Nothing would make me happier. Although I think he will end up back in Utica.
c00kies
It would be interesting to see how Shink kept up with the other guys there. Can someone name all of them? I only recognize Crosby, Mackinnon, Skinner, Brad Richards?, Tyson Barrie (?), James Van Riemsdyk and Kyle Okposo. What about the goalie?

Ossi Vaananen
I said it before, it'd be damn hard to ignore a 3rd strong preseason. He was the last cut on a Tort's team that saw Dalpe and Welsh picked up last minute. Last season he tied Vey for points in the preseason. Another strong start and Benning might be forced to make room for him, that or pay Kenins's 1 way in the minors.

Baertschi needs to be in the top 6 like Shinkaruk. Only Shinkaruk is waiver exempt. Maybe he can be a third liner if Higgins is traded, but until then I think he'll be in Utica until the deadline or an injury.

Says it's a maturing process with the forward. Expects him to be quicker as he grows
Gaudette Celly
Moreover, there have been legitimate rumours that Benning has already tried to trade Shinkaruk (at the 2014 draft). Please provide factual substantiation to support your claim. I think people are misunderstanding my point. I'm not saying Benning will/has given up on Gillis' prospects or will cast them aside just to spite Gillis. Rather I'm saying he'll favour his own prospects. I'm shocked that people don't agree with that. What's shocking is that you actually think that general managers of multi-hundred million dollar professional sports franchises would be so petty, shallow, and puerile. I'm calling projection. Agreed. If Shinkaruk (or any other Gillis, Nonis etc) player gets traded it's because Benning feels it improves the club moving forward. Not some petty baloney about who acquired them. 250Integra
The only way Shinkaruk makes the team out of training camp is if either Higgins or Burrows are traded, or them, Daniel Sedin, or Baertschi are injured. I think he'll benefit from playing the AHL for another season in a more prominent / leadership role. I hope grows into a player like Tyler Johnson, who played many years in the AHL before transitioning into the NHL. Also, the team will obviously take advantage of his waiver exemption. I say he'll play a few games in the NHL this year and he'll be full time on the third line next year.

Both Dreger and Friedman reported on Shinkaruk being part of a proposed deal by Benning at the 2014 draft (see below). I'll grant you Firedman but Dreger is barely a notch above Ekland (if that). Besides, it's still just a rumour, not terribly concrete. Besides #2, I'd trade Shink+ for Ekblad today. That still say's absolutely nothing in regards to Benning's assessment of Shink's quality/value (if anything it speaks to how much value he has). Nor particularly as it pertains to him being picked by Gillis.
