Hunter Shinkaruk | C/W

Yes, it makes it exciting to see the guys develop. If both boys show they are better than a couple of vets, who gets moved to make space? Or, would Benning trade Hunter?

Ha, I mean post Sedin. Maybe one of them would have to wait too long. Neither fit in the bottom 6.

I think that Baertschi may be the better player (higher pick and older) but in 5 years, who can say.

The drive from this kid! I love it. So tired of our usual boring "I'll do whatever the Canucks ask me, whenever they think im ready I'll play, yada bla bla". This kid is going to try and force a spot. Publicly announcing that he's gunning for someone's job.

How cam you not love this kid.

This is a side of Shinkaruk I have always loved as well!

IMO either could play a scoring role on a third line with a bit more development of their D game.

Without an injury, I won’t be surprised to see Higgins moved early this year. Leaving Baertschi, Kenins and Shinkaruk competing for middle 6 LW.

Also same can be said with Hansen if Virtanen looks ready. Then if Vbrata gets moved before deadline, that opens up another RW spot for Vey ,Greiner and Jensen to fight over.

If canucks plan on keeping Vey I don’t see him sticking down the middle, not with the depth canucks have at center. He’s basically a lighter version of Bonino and Benning just traded Bonino for the same weakness that Vey has. So I see him being moved to wing as soon as canucks feel Cassels, or Jones is can take over the 4th line center role.

All in all by the end of the year canucks could have 6-7 of 12 forwards that are all under 25 years of age. That would be quite the transition.

Through 2 periods: Shinkaruk looking dangerous, although hasn't scored. Thinking I'm glad Desjardins is coach while the Canucks have a bunch of forward prospects...Gonna take awhile for Shink to be able handle playing against the best defense in the world at the NHL level, but as a PP specialist and 3rd or 4th liner on a team that rolls all 4 lines will definitely help him develop.

My observation is that Shinkaruk created the most chances among Canuck forward prospects against the Jets prospects. He was most dangerous!

But was just missing the timing or familiarity with his line mates to make some of those plays clicks. There were a lot of passes a few inches from connecting. And it was a lot of quick and instinctive plays. I think a lot will happen as he develops some chemistry with whom he plays with. If in Utica, I believe he will be a lot more productive this year. When that chemistry happens he should start to emerge as an NHL player?

I am also curious to see when, after some of those quick plays are proven unavailable, he develops the knack for puck control at the pro level? Either cycling Sedin style, or dangling. To let plays develop! That will determine if he then becomes an impact NHL player!

He can skate and handle the puck but I expected more after a season of AHL. Line mates might make a big difference.

Like Gaunce, shink was there for leadership and continuity. He had nothing to prove. I thought he played well, just didnt finish

Does he keep his head up, while in possession of the puck?

He always has his head up lookng to make a play. That's why chemistry is so important for a playmaker like him.

They have such a short time to build chemistry in this tournament, that it usualyy takes them until game 3 to really figure out where their linemates are gonna be.

I think Hunter will shine more in preseason with a more structured system, and linemates that can think the game at a high level. The prospect tournament is mostly just sloppy shinny hockey for the most part.

I'm looking forward to him playing with more mature players too:)

Line of Zhuk & Shinkaruk looks way too small even at this level.

The Tampa Triplets say hi.

Not to mention they aren't any bigger (despite being 4 years older), even if you include Subban as the Canuck third. And speaking of, the three of them do seem to be bonding -- Jordan's bunking with Zhukenov for the tourney and says they've become great friends.

I know an article was released in the Province a few days ago that Green and Benning thought he had a poor first game, and Craig Button on TSN said Shinky had a disappointing tourney. But I thought he was by far the biggest offensive threat on the team all 3 games.

Timing looked a little off but that was what I expected from everyone essentially.

He had some great chances and showed some solid chemistry with Zhukenov. Those two compliment each other very well...would really enjoy seeing that duo together in the near future.

I really liked what I saw from Hunter in the tourney. He deserved to have a few goals there but just didn't happen for him. Hope he lights it up in preseason again.

That game they looked too small, doesn't mean I think it's impossible for them to have success together.
