-Vintage Canuck-
Leafs still looking for top-four defenseman: Having solidified their forward corps, the Maple Leafs are now shifting their focus to their blueline, where they'd like to add a top-four defenseman. Toronto GM Dave Nonis has been scouring the trade market and is likely to go in that direction if he makes a move on defense. It has been widely reported that the Leafs are willing to move one of their defensemen as part of a package for an upgrade on the blueline. John-Michael Liles and Cody Franson, a restricted free agent, have seen their names swirl around the rumor mill, but so far the Leafs haven't been able to come to terms on a trade. Former Winnipeg Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey and former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney are still available in the free agent market, but the Leafs aren't believed to be interested in either of them. Meanwhile, while his attention is on the defense, Nonis is looking to add a third-line winger, and might obtain one via free agency. http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor130706.html
