Piggy Bank
I just can't stop thinking about the Canuck - New Jersey trade... But not in a good way for either team. Bad for us because personal opinion is that we could have got more for Cory, but i would accept that trade any day. But what bugs me is how bad of a deal this was for New Jersey. Seriously. With Valeri still on the board they could have made one of the best top lines in the league... Kovalchuk - Zajac - Nichushkin This creates the perfect mentor for Valeri, and the most offensive based line in the nhl... This could have also developed Valeri into one of the best powerfowards in the game and he would have someone to tell him what to do because he doesn't speak english. He would flourish on this line. What do you think, from new jerseys perspective? Either way they will be losing for the next few years but what would you rather have, Cory Schneider in net, who is currently a back up to Brodeur, or! Kovalchuk Zajac Nichushkin line.... Nuxfanabroad
Reminds me of the Grabner deal. We couldn't cry too much about giving up on the guy, as Tallon did as well. So if Nichuskin lights it up, we can claim Lou Lamo botched it first. LL is pretty sharp-gotta be reasons people passed on this bloke. Let's just hope Boho fulfills his promise. Twayne Boneraper
I think you are overrating the Nichushkin - Zajac - Kovalchuk line personally. Most prospects take a few years to start hitting that potential, maybe Valeri is one of the very few fast developers but that in itself is really going against the odds. The other linemates themselves haven't even been that good lately ether. Zajac's production was never truly to the caliber of a 1st line center even in his best seasons and if you want to go recent he really has not produced well in the last 3 years. Even Kovalchuk had a pretty mediocre season last year. Brodeur being the starter is a respect thing. They are going to make Cory earn it without disgracing Brodeur by just giving it away. Cory will be the starter though. Brodeur has been declining and his numbers won't be hard for Cory to top. Hell Hedberg has been matching Brodeur's play. Even if Jersey has a lot of holes going forward a strong goalie can carry a team. Cory offers more value. Tampa Bay had one of the best lines in the NHL with Stamkos and St. Louis yet they can barely sniff the playoffs.

Gerbera
I think Cory is worth it for the pick... they pretty much stabilized their goaltender situation by finding a capable goalie that can fill in the shoes of Martin Brodeur. Martin Brodeur is not going to be easy to replace by a rookie...but luckily Schnied is already seasoned from dealing w/ the goaltending situation in Vancouver and they don't need to stress pushing their rookies from the pipeline. Mr.53
I think it was good for NJ as long as cory stays with them long term. If he leaves after what, 2 years? Then they lost out big time. Could you imagine if Cory made a return to VAN? That much is just messing around, but that would be AWESOME. lol

Derp...
Boho > Coho... this could be bad.... I think he will be known as Bo long term. Few NHL players are known by their first name, but i think he could be one. Kesler=Kes for short, Horvat=Horv? Bo is better... 2 cents Oh ya and fair trade, I think Schneider will do more good than Valeri for NJD. Obvious reasons really.

DownUndaCanuck
NJ wins in such a big way that losing out on Valeri doesn't even matter. They got a bonified starting goalie and top-5 NHL goaltender who will compete for the Vezina for the next decade. Probably the best option to replace Brodeur in the NHL. I'm not saying he's going to win a Cup just yet, but give Schneider a few seasons as a starter, let him gain experience and he will. The Canucks didn't have time to wait for that to happen so keeping Luongo is a good move (more playoff-ready, no argument there), but definately should have gotten more out of this trade. We should have at least gotten a backup goalie, bottom pairing defenceman or top-9 forward out of the deal if not more. I'm sure Columbus would have thrown us their 1st overall plus a prospect and maybe even a later pick too.

Mustapha
The 2012 and 2013 Canucks were terrible playoff teams that couldn't score. If NJ has any kind of decent season, Cory could very well be the 'one' to replace Martin Brodeur. Only the Canucks would trade away a player like that. DeNiro
Cue the fans that need to judge this trade immediately... Funny how when it's other teams trading for potential it's a good trade. But when the Canucks trade someone of value for potential, it's somehow horrible. Everyone seems to be basing it on the fact that Cory is somehow guaranteed to win a vezina and a cup. I mean I like Schneider, and I think he's a great goalie, but come on. Fan boy much? For one thing New Jersey has a pretty bad team that is struggling financially. The odds of them winning the cup, even with Cory are fairly low. Not to mention Cory will be a backup once again next season, and then only be one season away from being a UFA. If anyone doesn't think that's there's a serious risk here for New Jersey you're crazy. If Cory walks in two years, they basically traded what could be a young star center for a season of having a great backup, and then 1 season of Cory being the starter. I'll take Horvat and Lu locked in long term over nothing for Lu and keeping Schneider.
