Luongo's Return

In the Slot

I haven't supported Lou the last few years and I'm not gonna now. Gillis mad a huge mess over this entire thing and should of traded him last year before he could blame te new cba making Lou's contract untradeable.. If I were Lou I wouldn't come back either.. Do none of u remember Lou lettin in 6,7 or even 8 goals during the most important games of the season?? We can't win with him. You can bash me all u want but at least I'm not changing my views or flipping back and forth between hating Lou or loving him.

The team needs to wash its hands of this and move on. It's best if Lou doesn't report and we start fresh with new goalies, there is just too much drama and it has been and will be a distraction to the team.

This is coming from a fan who appreciated everything Lou did/has done for this team, franchise, city, kids at canuck place on and on, but who actually wanted us to go with Cory. My view was if we traded Cory (given we have a terrific player in Lou) then we better get a ransom. We did not but what's done is done and we still have a goalie who is capable of wining a vezina and winning a cup.

That being said, this city, many of the fans, the media, etc have put this man who has given his own time to go talk to dying kids (how many of you have done that in your life?) and his family through the UTMOST OF GARBAGE over the last 3 years of his life.

If he comes back, which I think he will, I hope the following occur at home game 1 of the season, and if you're there I ask you as a fan, to show respect, to thank him, and to get behind him again.

1. I hope the nucks are smart enough, as they do with Rookies, as he leads them on to the ice, to stay back. They don't tell him, they just stop. Give him his ice.

2. Every single damn fan in that building gets their on their feet, and welcomes him home.

That's they way fans should act. You'd be surprised how much that would mean to a player. especially one that wears his heart on his sleeve.

Its funny, this man has given everything he has to this city, yet we just wanted to take more.

Perhaps its time for us to give back to him, to lift him up.

Most of the other goalies around the league have their bad games, exactly the same....Martin Brodeur would be the main one coming to mind.He was atrocious at times, but they're still having him ahead of our own Cory Schneider.

Lou had some bad games, but why dwell on them.He was also lights out in other games.

The Keslers,Sedins,Bieksas,Edlers etc of this team need to show up and be accounted for in front of our netminders, and maybe we wouldn't see 6,7 or 8 goals being scored on us.

In the Stanley cup when Chicago went down by 2 or 3 goals, they didn't give up as would the Canucks, and all that has to change under Torts.

It's a nice sentiment, and we will ahve to see what the fans at the game do. I am the opposite of you though, I wanted to keep Lu for the long haul, a la Brodeur in Jersey and shop Cory from the outset of cory's emergence as a good goalie. I am stoked that Lu outlasted the coach that started this mess and also the upstart backup who took his job. (*not in any way blaming cory, just being tongue in cheek there) For me, i got my wish. Lu is ours and it didn't cost us a thing: follow me here: we can only have one goalie on the ice at a time, so what did having Lu start most games next year cost us? Nothing. In fact we got Bo Horvat for a backup! Amazing.

Horvat isn't proven. Schnieder was, you won't convince me it was a good deal.

Are we fine with a goalie like Lou, absolutely. I think last year's playoffs showed the issue was not in the net for the Canucks. And my hope was well, if you're going to trade Schnieder, do something to address why we're losing in the playoffs.

ie get a young big center or a second line legitimate scorer AND a high draft pick

We only got the latter and that's because of MG's errors. It is what it is.
