[Report] Canucks out on Blum, still chasing Fistric

Recommended Posts

Fistric can hit. He's a great addition - this was the analysis on him when he was younger

Fistric works very hard off the ice to maintain great conditioning, which is necessary for his almost-excessive frame. He is a surprisingly agile skater for a player his size and any questions about his skating should have been long put to rest. When he plays with an edge, he can be a noticeably intimidating force. However, he needs to keep his consistency on high and make himself noticeable on the ice with destructive hits. Is not offensively talented, needs to continue to make smart outlet passes and just get pucks to the net and not try to be creative with the puck. He has a strong work ethic and is a leader for any team he plays on. A simple, but decidedly physical, game is the most effective use of Fistric

2007-2008

The Edmonton-native made is NHL debut against Montreal on December 23rd. In fact, the 21-year-old ended up playing more NHL games than AHL games in 07-08 by a 37 to 30 margin. He even participated in nine playoff games for Dallas. Fistric made a nice transition to the NHL and showed he was not overwhelmed by the better, faster players. He only registered 24 PIMs during the regular season.

More recent analysis

Assets:

Has tremendous size, strength and physical intimidation qualities. Can play a sound stay-at-home game and limit his mistakes along the blueline.

Flaws:

Isn't very quick, so fast National Hockey League forwards can force him into making mistakes with the puck (or get around him on the outside).

Career Potential:

Big defensive defenseman.

Blummer... I really wanted Blum just because of him playing for the Giants as a kid...

Fistric would be a great addition. Although he's not a huge upgrade over Alberts, he's a prototypical shutdown defenceman that lays the body. Isn't shy from contact and blocks shots. Only thing is he's a lefty but we've already got Weber so that wouldn't matter.

6'2 233lbs so he's a big body

Fraser from the Leafs is a guy like Fistric but better defensively. A great net clearing d-man that could play with Edler! And we get to F over the Leafs at the same time (offersheet him at 1 million and the Leafs won't match).
