[Signing] Pens re-sign Harry Zolnierczky

Zolnierczyk, 25, was acquired by the Penguins from Anaheim earlier this offseason. He split the 2012-13 campaign between the Anaheim and Philadelphia Flyers organizations. He played in seven NHL games with the Flyers, recording one assist and 36 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Zolnierczyk spent a majority of the '12-13 season in the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Phantoms and Norfolk Admirals, collecting 11 goals and 19 points with 68 penalty minutes in 61 games between the two teams.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Zolnierczyk has recorded seven points (3G-4A) and 71 penalty minutes in 44 career NHL games with Philadelphia. He scored a goal in NHL debut against Craig Anderson and the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 18, 2011. Zolnierczyk has appeared in 116 career AHL regular-season games with Adirondack and Norfolk, totaling 22 goals, 23 assists and 45 points with 142 penalty minutes.

Originally signed by Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent on March 8, 2011, Zolnierczyk played four years of collegiate hockey at Brown University of the ECAC from 2007-11. Zolnierczyk appeared in 114 career games at Brown, registering 30 goals, 39 assists and 69 points. His best season came as a senior in '10-11 when he was named Ivy League Player of the Year while serving as team captain. Zolnierczyk was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team in 2009.
