Aaron Rome should have been re signed/Tribute thread

Aaron Rome was a great defenseman for the Canucks. He delivered punishing hits, sound defense, and no one can forget his goal scoring streak he went on, where everyone was starting to nominate him for the all star game!

He is the big, 3rd pairing LH defenseman the Canucks are lacking. He can shut down the other team's lines quite easily.

He was very underrated by Canucks fans but he brought a lot to the team, and I could see him being a very good player under Tortorella.

Check out the PPG stat. He was ahead of the likes of Brian Campbell, Kris Letang, Alex Edler and Erik Karlsson, your Norris winner from a year ago.

I just posted this thread to say,

I truly miss you Rome. You're one of my favourite defensemen in the league and I thank you for your service to the Canucks organization.

Videos of Rome:

I miss you Romesy!

The players agree too:

I shed a tear to this day that you're not with the team :'(.

I'll always love you Romesy. Go get em' kid.

He was vastly underrated by CDC and the whole AV-Rome thing is beyond stupid, but the fact is, the league is full of guys who can play a stay-at-home solid defensive game, while providing a physical presence.

Andrew Alberts did it last year and hopefully, the Canucks will find someone to play that role again this season.

If he didn't hit Horton we would have the Stanley cup right now, it was Rome who got the big bad bruins going, they had nothing going in the series IMO, then he hit Horton with that series ending hit which jump started bruins offence in their home rink! We're lucky we LU played awesome at home!

Rome was actually playing well in the SCF - the more he played, the better he got. and we needed him then too. that hit, and the suspension were so ridiculous - especially considering what the bruins get and got away with on a regular basis. 2011 and this year too. if a bruin had knocked a sedin out, it would have just been called a clean hockey play...

but back to Rome: ya, he showed so much potential. He could actually be really solid if put in a situation where he was relied on more ... but... wouldn't want to keep developing him or anything like that... no...

Still think Horton needed to stop admiring his pass and keep his head up. Nothing wrong with that hit at all other than a split second late at worst. Full body contact rather than a target to the head.

Rome got punished based on Boston's incessant whining behind the scenes.
