MotherCanucker911
I personally think that our core group is almost finished and we will need to start rebuilding soon. If we don't win it ALL next year, we need to plan for our future. How about in a year from now, trading majority of our core players and rebuilding the team through the draft? I would love to see the more kids(75%) getting a chance to play in a year from now. We have some pretty good prospects (Gaunce, Horvat, Jensen, Shinkaruk,Subban,Corrado,Lack and Cannata). I think if they learn and mature as a team, they will be a very strong group. If we finish low in a year from now(which is strongly possible regardless due to new divisions) and acquire as many draft picks as possible for our veterans, we could try and select Connor McDavid. People have compared this 16 year old to Sidney Crosby. Add him to our group of prospects and we could be a force to reckon with for years to come. I'm not saying purposely tank the season in a year from now. I'm just saying asking how would you feel if this happened? We could actually have a legitimate team that could really compete every year. CanucksFanMike
If we finish last that year, sure. If not, I wouldn't pay the price to select him.
Keslerific
Nope, we should keep our veterans, they will be valuable when guys like Gaunce, Horvat, Shinkaruk, & Jensen are coming in. These guys are our future, not McDavid, you should never completely change your team just for a CHANCE at someone.
MotherCanucker911
Another thing, I'm not knocking the Canucks next year. I'm just saying that we need to plan for our future too. We could win the Stanley Cup and still do this. I'm just thinking about the future of this team and where we want to be in a couple of years. Avicii
The new CBA changed how the draft lottery works, didn't it? Even if you finish dead last, it takes the last 3 years into account or something. We'd still have a very low chance at getting the 1st Overall.

wallstreetamigo
Burning it to the ground and trying to build 75% of your team through prospects and the draft only gets you more chances at a lottery pick for the next several years. There is not much chance the Aquilini's want to go through a rebuild that deep. And a lot of that is for financial reasons.

cdubuya
There is no chance this team misses the playoffs. And even if crap hits the fan we won't be in contention for a lottery pick. And even if we are there's little chance of getting the first pick. And right now even with a second overall pick it will probably be impossible to move up to get him. dontstresskes
I think Gillis is going to make this "retooling" process a rebuilding process. This guy doesn't know what he's doing. One minute we're "going all in" and competing for a cup. Next, we lose in 5 games and we're "tweaking" the team a little. We then lose in 4 games and we need to "retool". We trade Schneider away because we can't trade Luongo. We are now building for our future with our draft picks. He always seems to be a year behind on what we should actually do..He's going to force a rebuilding process anyways before he leaves. We probably will select Conor McDavid by the looks of it. I'm sick of trying to "believe" every year. This is our motto because our odds are winning are like the lottery. Look at Chicago and Boston. They just came from the finals and already making moves to get them back there. We seem to be a team like San Jose. We can do good against the teams but when it matter's...nothing. It's embarrassing that Chicago(2) and Boston(1) were built after us and have already won the cup. Why don't people see this? Why don't we go and make it happen through the right moves, hard work and the right players/coaching staff. Holy!
