Westboro Baptist Church's Plan To Picket Cory Monteith's Funeral Is Shameful

Mods, I know there's already a thread regarding this man's death. However, this is a different topic which probably deserves it's own thread. Feel free to merge them if you disagree.

The Westboro Baptist Church announced on Twitter Sunday morning that they will be picketing "Glee" star Cory Monteith's funeral. Monteith was found dead in his hotel room Saturday, July 13, after the staff realized he had missed his checkout time. He was 31 years old.

The homophobic tweets describe Monteith as a perpetuator of Chris Colfer's role as a gay teenager, Kurt Hummel, on "Glee." They went on to say that he was "struck down by raging mad God."

The account also tweeted to all of the cast members of the showing, saying "Praise God Almighty" that Monteith was dead.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, one of the more active spokespeople for the group, said that the church was "GLEE-ful over God's righteous judgment."

This is not the first time the Topeka, Kan., based organization has claimed they would protest. Following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December, the organization announced it would picket a vigil being held for the victims and their families.

But if Monteith should be put to rest in his home country of Canada, the WBC might have to turn right back around.

In 2008, they crossed the border to arrive at a funeral of a 22-year-old who was murdered on a Greyhound bus. Their intent was to tell Canadians that the murder was God's response to policies allowing homosexuality, abortion and divorce and remarriage.

In light of this, the Canadian Border Patrol told officers in 2008 not to allow anyone to cross who had signs or pamphlets consistent with the church's message.

We can only hope they will be rightfully turned away should Monteith's funeral services take place in Canada.

Much of Hollywood continues to mourn the loss of Monteith, taking to Twitter to express their condolences and offer prayers.

I was actually thinking that they'd do this the night I heard about Monteith's passing.

Hopefully they get turned back at the border as they should be. What they do is the complete opposite of what it should mean to be Christian.
