Pavel Burrows
http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/17/brule-hoping-for-nhl-tryout/ Certainly worth a minute of your time is this piece on Gilbert Brule by The Province’s Tony Gallagher. Brule, as you probably know, was drafted sixth overall by Columbus in 2005 after a standout junior career with the Vancouver Giants. However, his pro career has been a major disappointment, with just 95 points in 296 games for the Blue Jackets, Oilers and Coyotes. Now 26, Brule’s not giving up on his NHL dream and is looking to put his troubles, largely related to his father, behind him. “At one point, my father and I were very close, as father and son should be,” he said. “But now, basically, we don’t have a relationship. Now we just email on occasion.” Brule accuses his father of taking money from him and even “making suggestions there were some pictures on my computer that could be shown” — allegations his father denies. There’s more in the story, but we’ll let you read it for yourself. For now, he’s hoping for an NHL tryout. “A lot of teams now think of me as a guy who is going to run around and hit guys, and I know often in that third-line role you need a guy who’s going to provide energy,” he said. “But they forget I have some skill, which is why I was drafted where I was.” Vancouver boy with lots of potential. He was amazing with the Giants... DeNiro
I don't like the part where he brags about being drafted where he was. That was along time ago. Maybe part of the reason he hasn't had much success is because he thought he was much better than he was. His dad could have had alot to do with that though. I wouldn't offer him more than a tryout at this point, but would much rather give our own guys like Schroeder and Gaunce a shot.
Pavel Burrows
^ I agree but he is right about him having some skill that's why he was drafted at 6th Overall. Gilbert Brule had 14 Points in 33 Games in 2011-2012.
LeanBeef
All I remember of him is eating a bunch of Hansen's fists, picking up Bonno, and being an all star for the giants.
Ilya Mikheyev
Don't see a problem with a PTO in Vancouver. Lots of players get signed after PTO-ing in Vancity.

aliboy
Would be interesting to give him a tryout and see how some of the younger kids compare, see if they can beat him out of a spot.

theminister
I was a big advocate of giving him a two way deal last year. I think he could be a real steal. Has decent all round ability including in the dot.

Datsyukian
I know this guy works super hard in the off season at Hockey Performance in North Van. What really messed up his career was when Columbus put him in way to early and he got some bad injuries. Definitely worth a try out... Lots of skill and plays tough for a smaller guy!
