Couturier's deal will take effect in the 2014-15 Season.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced that the club has agreed to a two-year contract extension with forward Sean Couturier.

The 20-year-old appeared in his second season with the Flyers this past season where he recorded four goals and 15 points in 46 games, while averaging 15:53 of ice-time per game.

He also appeared in 31 regular season games with the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, prior to the start of the Flyers season in January. He posted 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points with the Phantoms.

Couturier was selected eighth overall by the Flyers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and made the club's roster out of Training Camp at the beginning of the 2011-12 season.

He recorded 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 77 regular season games with the Flyers in his rookie campaign. He finished third among all NHL rookies that season with a plus-minus rating of +18.

Couturier posted a hat trick in Game 2 of the Flyers-Penguins Easter Conference Quarterfinal series in 2012.

Looking at that and knowing that's all the Flyers could honestly afford moving forward. I like this kid even more as he could have gotten paid a minimum of $4 million AAV or better on the open market

That's called taking a bridge contract discount. And that's what is missing in so many good players these days.
