Warhippy
What's lost in all of this is, what will now happen in Toronto with Kadri going to arbitration who has a much better +/- and better point production for the year.
Raph
Bieksa is aging and will take less money on his next contract The Sedins are aging and will take less money on their next contract. We will possibly save around $3 million between those 3 contracts with the cap going up. Edmonton on the other hand will have to re-sign their stars to the same or better contracts. There is no possible way they can afford Yakupov, Dubnyk Schultz, Hopkins, let alone find and sign that true top 2 they need or even fill out their top 4. Less cap space than Vancouver and paid Gordon $3 million a year to play 4th line duties. Again that awkward moment when Vancouver has more cap space and more future flexibility than the Oilers :D
AFrame14
Am I the only one who thinks this is a good deal for both gagne and the oil? What choice did they have? Had to sign gagne in order to had a chance at the playoffs and its not like they are locked in for 7 years with him. If he puts up 60 pts then he has earned his money.. That's the way the NHL is now. 2nd line centers get paid 5 mil
Edlerberry
MacT Unchained. Only thing remaining is to dump Hemsky.
Warhippy
This post makes me laugh. It seems you are glad that our team will be crappier in 3 years.
Canuck Surfer
Well its better than what they paid Hemsky and Horcoff! It is a bit much but how many teams have a second line centre who does not look our of place jumping onto a line with Hall and Eberle? Gagner averaged a point a game when he played with them last year.

GB5
This is one bad contract they will be looking to dump in a year or two.
SeanAvery16
He's making 200k less than Kesler.. oh boy. Overpayment, but it's not as if the Oilers had many alternatives. Oh well, I'm not about to complain.

RyanKeslord17
Gagner is a very good talent. He will make that contract look good in a year or so. Not joking
Butters Stoch
Bit of an overpayment but I don't think it's that bad, people forget he's only 23. He should be able to put up 60+ points in a full season.
a Fool
I called 4.8M a couple days ago... Filppula and Weiss signing for 5M set a high precedent for 2nd line centres this off-season.
Go Faulk Yourself
For a season where the cap has decreased significantly players sure aren't give two craps about signing a contract to help their team win.
oldnews
Oddly enough he actually managed to score more points per game in the last two seasons than Kesler. Gagner-0.69 Kesler-0.
Rounoush
It's really not a bad deal and I'm not a fan of Gagner. The key here for me is the 3 years. If he doesn't do much in his time left, they can pretty easily send him off for something.
