[Signing] Gagner re-signs for 3 years

Recommended Posts

Bieksa is aging and will take less money on his next contract

The Sedins are aging and will take less money on their next contract.

We will possibly save around $3 million between those 3 contracts with the cap going up. Edmonton on the other hand will have to re-sign their stars to the same or better contracts.

There is no possible way they can afford Yakupov, Dubnyk Schultz, Hopkins, let alone find and sign that true top 2 they need or even fill out their top 4.

Less cap space than Vancouver and paid Gordon $3 million a year to play 4th line duties.

Again that awkward moment when Vancouver has more cap space and more future flexibility than the Oilers :D

Am I the only one who thinks this is a good deal for both gagne and the oil? What choice did they have? Had to sign gagne in order to had a chance at the playoffs and its not like they are locked in for 7 years with him. If he puts up 60 pts then he has earned his money.. That's the way the NHL is now. 2nd line centers get paid 5 mil

Well its better than what they paid Hemsky and Horcoff!

It is a bit much but how many teams have a second line centre who does not look our of place jumping onto a line with Hall and Eberle? Gagner averaged a point a game when he played with them last year.
