[Speculation] Henrik & Daniel Sedin's Next Contracts

Recommended Posts

Something with a cap hit around 4M. These guys are two of the best conditioned athletes in the game, they will last a long time (unless Tortorella's shot blocking ways break them down). They can play till 40 easily. Something like this:

6M

5M

4M

4M

4M

3M

2M

Has them till their 39, then they can decide if they want to go back to play in MODO or keep signing cheap 1 year deals. This will also free up about 4M in cap space for the Canucks which will probably go towards new Tanev/Hansen/rookie contracts.

It'll be around 5.6mil for 5yrs or 5.33mil for 6 yrs. They will still be averaging 70+ points/ yr over the next 3 yrs and 45+ points/yr the 2 or 3 yrs following... look at what 33+ year old players are getting for being less productive than the Sedins are and it's around 5.5mil / yr. This is still a bargain for these guys, with the cap going up there will be plenty of money left to sign future players.

Give them whatever term they want. I couldn't care less if they ask for an 8 year contract, deal with the repercussions later. Honestly I think the max they would want is 4 years so if that is what they want you give it to them, no questions asked.

That being said I think if MG gives them a basic blueprint of what he has planned in the next few years they may possibly take less than current value. Anything around 5M a year and I will be thrilled. If it is more than that I will be bummed but it would not be an unwarranted contract. Guys easily get 7M on free market.

anything below 6.5M will be a bargain

Cap should rise 3-4M annually again. Therefore if the Sedins plays decent for another 2 years, their contract will be a bargain, then if they slow down, cap should be back to 70M+ in 3 years, then even if they are 2nd line players by then, 6M won't be that bad.

Honestly I wouldn't give them longer than a 4 year deal solely for the fact that they have a desire to go back to Sweden, and I wouldn't wanna risk them retiring before their contract is up, and putting a cap penalty against us which is unnecessary .

A 6-6.5mil/year for 3 years seems fair, and then they can go back to Sweden to end their careers there.

My dream deal would be >6mil for 3 years, but that really pushing it I would think.
