Lui Changes Agents

It's pretty clear Luongo is still not amicable with the situation. If the fact he STILL hasn't talked yet it's clue enough, then the agent change should solidify it for you. And there are 6 weeks out from training camp. I still can't believe what a mess they have all created. At this point, what is a new agent going to do for Luongo? Find some loophole in the new CBA? That's about his only hope. He's playing for the rest of his life in Van, or he's sitting out and thus sitting out of the Olympics.

CAA Sports also represent Hank and Danny, as well as Crosby, Malkin, Toews and many others.

According to their website:

CAA Sports represents more than 800 of the world's best athletes in baseball, football, hockey, basketball, soccer, tennis, and golf, in addition to icons in individual sports, Olympians, coaches, broadcasters, and other sports personalities.

Beyond conventional athlete representation, CAA Sports provides unique opportunities for clients off the field, in areas including licensing, endorsements, speaking, philanthropy, video games, and digital content.

CAA Sports also works in the areas of broadcast rights, corporate marketing initiatives, and sports properties for sales and sponsorship opportunities.

Right after the announcement was made on 1040, Sekeras and Price, were spouting everything negative about this change. The media in this town is all about their own headlines. Do you think Gillis is that stupid to make comments last night, about meetings he and the Canuck team have had with Luongo, without getting some kind of confirmation that he is indeed coming to camp this September?

My guess is that they're better at dealing with the media and public relations and that is something that was obviously missing from Luo's previous representation. Unlike others, I don't think it indicates he's not going to play here but is just as likely to show that he is and is already thinking about how he can make it better.

This is the statement from Barry that stood out for me.

Words such as "difficult file" and "reaching out" aren't generally used by an agent who simply wants to touch bases to let MG know that CAA Sports are now representing Lui.

"Reaching out" is probably an incredibly common phrase.

"Difficult file" is definitely a little more odd, but that still doesn't mean Luo told them he wants out as opposed to hiring them specifically to help him foster a more positive media image to make his time here more enjoyable. We have no idea what they find "difficult," so no reason to assume the worst of Luo or the situation in general.

Clearly he feels his old agent gave him some bad advice signing that long term contract that became unmovable.

I think this is more of just a punishment to his old agent more than anything.

Agents do handle other things than just signing contracts. JP Barry is the best in the business, and looks out for his clients. Plus I think him and Gillis know each other pretty good. He did work out a discount with Gillis for the Sedins.
