MJDDawg
Good for Dave. In a short period of time he's brought some apparent stability to that organization. Plus, I always preferred his low-key style over those blowhards who promise this and that.

Ossi Vaananen
ROFL, how many times is Nonis gonna leach what Burke has done for him? Vancouver, Anaheim, and now Toronto. A 5 year extension for a guy that doesn't have the will power to say no to a donut.
mbal23
Damn didn't see this thread. I'll post this here. Report: Maple Leafs sign GM Dave Nonis to a five-year extension According to reports from a variety of sources (though the news was first broken by Lawrence Duschenski of TSN radio 1050) the Toronto Maple Leafs have extended General Manager Dave Nonis' contract for five years. Dave Nonis was signed to a three year extension upon taking over the top-job from Brian Burke in a surprise move this past January. This past season Dave Nonis' Leafs made the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade. The playoff roster, however, was essentially the same on Nonis inherited. Nonis essentially buried Tim Connolly and Mike Komisarek in the AHL, jettisoned Matt Lombardi, and traded for the ineffectual Ryan O'Byrne at the trade deadline. Though I suppose you might give him some credit for holding firm and not trading for Roberto Luongo for the second time in his career, as many anticipated. This summer Nonis bought out Komisarek and Mikhail Grabovski, traded three mid-round picks for Dave Bolland, re-signed Tyler Bozak, traded for Jonathan Bernier, re-sign Carl Gunnarsson and snagged David Clarkson in free-agency. Its been a busy summer for Nonis, but there's a lot left to accomplish including contract extensions for key pieces like Nazem Kadri, Cody Franson and star sniper Phil Kessel. That Nonis was extended before managing to retain Kessel, or manage a winning team over a full NHL season might strike some as a bit of a surprise. The Leafs will enter next season without a handful of their best play driving forwards from last season (including Matt Frattin, Clarke MacArthur and Grabovski) and a lot of doubters in the peanut galleries. Dave Nonis now has the job security to continue carrying out his grand shot quality experiment in Toronto. It should be a pretty interesting season on Bay Street. rampage
Too long. Nonis has barley made a fingerprint on the Leafs and for them to extend him for 5 seems like a bad move.

D.Doughty
How to get a job as the GM of the Maple Leafs 1) Overpay in free agency 2) Don't sign your stud prospects 3) Draft bad

Down by the River
Nonis got fired for not mortgaging the Canucks' future. Had he bent to owner's expectations this team would have traded at least one of Kesler, Edler, and/or Schneider (though Schneids ended up getting traded anyway) for a rental player (Brad Richards). Drouin
Good for him after building the Leafs roster entirely by himself and taking them into the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade!
