-Vintage Canuck-
A little while ago, I made a similar thread ranking 1st overall picks from the past 10 years or so. I decided to do the same with Canucks and their 1st round picks from the last decade. In the past 10 years, the Canucks have selected 11 players in the first round. They only year they didn't select a prospect was in 2010. We are going to leave out Luc Bourdon. List of Players, drafted in the 1st round past decade: Ryan Kesler, Cory Schneider, Luc Bourdon (RIP), Michael Grabner, Patrick White, Cody Hodgson, Jordan Schroeder, Nicklas Jensen, Brendan Gaunce and Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk. Rank them by how much skill they have and the value of each player. I'll go first: 1. Ryan Kesler 2. Cory Schneider 3. Cody Hodgson 4. Michael Grabner 5. Bo Horvat 6. Hunter Shinkaruk 7. Nicklas Jensen 8. Brendan Gaunce 9. Jordan Schroeder 10. Patrick White How would you rank them? Any agreements, disagreements?

elvis15
Ryan KeslerCory SchneiderBo HorvatCody HodgsonMichael GrabnerNicklas JensenBrendan GaunceHunter ShinkarukJordan SchroederPatrick White It's a big gap from 9 to 10 (might as well have just done a 1-9 with White excluded as well), and I only put Grabner that high because of what he's managed to do so far. Considering him as a prospect when we had him I would have ranked him lower. Spots 6, 7 and 8 are fairly interchangeable as well since they're all excellent. Kesler's clearly an excellent pick late in the first, and Schneider's turning out great (even if he no longer plays for us) but I'm more excited about Horvat's all around abilities than I was about Hodgson when he was drafted. He has a better multi-faceted game than Hodgson I think (similar to why I put Jensen and Gaunce ahead of Shinkaruk), although Hodgson's offence is clearly top end. apollo
I'm going based on overall potential and making a bold pick on Schroeder ... he's really got me convinced. He's got great work ethic and skills... I can seriously see him becoming a Marty St. Louis. Although I said that about mayray too. 1. The beauty of all beauties Ryan Kesler 2. Patrick white 3. Bo Horvat (really high hopes) 4. Jordan Schroeder (again really high hopes. 5. Cory 6. Hunter 7. Grabs 8. Jensen 9. Gaunce 10. Coho (swap him with #2 ) 2-5 is going to be really tight. Honestly I gotta give it to our scouts... they haven't been using first Rounders on busts.

TOMapleLaughs
What's interesting about our rankings is that Kesler is the clear number one here, but for the first while, he was projected to be a teams' 3rd line center. And now Horvat an Gaunce are projected to be similar players. The other issue: Where are the defensemen? Thank God we stole Corrado, but there are no studs on the horizon. Hey maybe we should stop dishing out 2nd rounders like they were candy.
