Raffi Torres's Smirk
Does anyone know of a recreational hockey league where contact IS permitted? I've done research, and found some in the states, but all the ones in this city (Ice604, ASHL, etc) state very clearly no contact is permitted. Or, rather, would others please share their experience with how much contact is typically allowed in rec leagues? I don't want to take people to the cleaners, but I havent played rec league before and want to know if I can finish my checks properly. Does it all depend on which ref you get? Connauton
I've played Ice604, and you definitely can't finish your checks.
skolozsy2
How old are you....and how skilled of a league are you looking for? Cause, you might need to look into some low-level professional mens leagues to fit what you're looking for. Even the most skilled mens/rec leagues are no-check. People dont want to be getting run over or put into the boards knowing they gotta get up in the morning and go to work...they just want a highly skilled game of "play-the-puck" hockey. CanucksSayEh
Refs will let you battle along the boards, and infront of the net. Sometimes let ya clear the crease and such, but it's at their horribly inconsistent disgression. Rec leagues can get really chippy, lots of hack and wacks go unpunished, but lay an open ice hit and your outta there.

Raffi Torres's Smirk
So say you're playing D, and a guy goes outside on you, can you pinch him off on the boards? Or even throw your hip out there?

taxi
There are no rec leagues with full contact. The insurance issues would be huge. Like others have said, you can battle on the boards and in front of the net. No actualy checking. Throw somebody into the boards or give them an open ice hit and you're done. This is a good thing. Having people playing full contact hockey without the reprecutions of playing in a league, would be a disaster. You'd see all sorts of weekend warriors out to mess people up.
