Tuna
Chicago Blackhawks To Sell Vials of United Center Ice The sale gives new meaning to the phrase "piece of history" By James Neveau | Tuesday, Jul 30, 2013 Getty Images Patrick Kane #88 of the Chicago Blackhawks celebrates after scoring a goal in the first period against Tuukka Rask #40 of the Boston Bruins in Game Five of the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Final at United Center on June 22, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images) The phrase “what do you get for the (insert team name here) fan who has everything” is one of the most clichéd in the sports world, but it is actually the perfect choice of words for the latest piece of memorabilia offered by the Chicago Blackhawks. That’s because the team is actually selling small vials containing pieces of the ice used at the United Center during the team’s 2013 Stanley Cup championship run: “At the end of the season, the crew at the United Center goes about their job of melting and removing the home ice from the floor. “It’s a moment that passes with little fanfare or recognition. All the amazing moments that took place on that ice literally go down the drain. This year, we decided to do something different. We were on-hand for the ice removal to document the occasion and save a few precious pieces of that magical home ice.” The vials will be sold for an as-yet-unannounced amount, and all the money raised will go to Chicago Blackhawks Charities. If you are interested in learning more information about purchasing a piece of the ice, you can visit this link and sign up for an email alert. In the meantime, here is the video that the team showed at their annual Blackhawks Convention announcing the venture: Source: http://www.nbcchicag...l#ixzz2aYJ1rb8r Brutal...People are stupid enough to buy vials of dirty water. PlayStation
If the Canucks won the cup ON home ice, and they were donating the money to Children's Hospital and Canucks Place, would you?
Baka
It's kind of cool if you are an extremist kind of fan. Even if my team won I would still see it as a vile of dirty water and potential C-blocker but people are entitled to spend their money however they want and spend they will. MJDDawg
Great idea! But could I go all Angelina Jolie and wear the vial around my neck?
poetica
Well, I'm glad to hear that the proceeds will go to charities. But it's still a stupid idea. Of course, I'm not ashamed to say that if it was the melted ice the Canucks had won their first Cup on I might feel a little different... EDIT: On second thought, I wouldn't. Every time I saw the vile I'd probably just remember Horton pouring Boston water on our ice before Game 7 and be really, really sad (and more than a little pissed off.)
