Blues sign Bouwmeester to 5-year extension

The St. Louis Blues have announced that they have agreed to a 5-year contract extension with defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. He had one year left on his current deal, which means he will remain with the team through the 2018-19 season. Here's how the deal break down, according to Blues beatwriter Jeremy Rutherford:

That's really not a whole lot though if you think about it as they've guys due next season as well and don't tend to score a ton of goals. Never been a fan of Bouwmeesters contracts. He is just always overpaid for what he brings which is nothing more than smooth skating and endurance (ironman streak)

Am I the only one mad at him just for having a longer streak than Henrik? When you're elite like Henrik and taking abuse all the time with a target on your back you have a way more impressive iron-man streak in my books.

Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo will be one of the best pairings next season

They have $8.8 million like TheEhrhoffEffect pointed out. $7 million for Pietrangelo + $1.2 million for Paajarvi = $8.2 million - $8.8 million = $300K of remaining cap space. St. Louis will be fine.
