-Vintage Canuck-
Board approves transaction, securing future of franchise: NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League today announced the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to a group headed by George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc. The transaction, which closed earlier today, was approved by the League’s Board of Governors – terminating League ownership of the Club. "The National Hockey League believes in Arizona as an NHL market and that these new owners can provide the Coyotes the opportunity to secure a stable, long-term future in Glendale," Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We thank Mike Nealy, Don Maloney, Dave Tippett, team captain Shane Doan and all the players and staff for consistently going 'above and beyond' on behalf of the franchise during this long and complex process. We thank the Coyotes' devoted fans for their patient, perseverant support. We are extremely pleased that a positive resolution has been achieved for the fans, the city, the Coyotes and the League." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=679606

DeNiro
Well the rest of the league will be paying for their losses whether they're owned by the NHL or someone else, so who cares? Only Bettman the spin doctor extraordinaire can try and pretend that a team that has been failing for 17 years is somehow going to turn it around now and be successful. Warhippy
Just sad. The city demanding the taxpayers pay up to keep the team there, the league demanding other teams pay up to keep the team there, the ownership groups involved recently all demanding the city, taxpayers and league give up money to keep them there...If I ran my business like this i'd be living in the street. Only in a Bettman lead NHL would this happen.

Magikal
What a joke. A team no body cares for in a state that doesn't give two craps about hockey. Meanwhile they talk about promoting hockey more out west with cities like Seattle and Portland just waiting for the opportunity to have a team. Especially Portland. Their minor league team has such a strong fan base. Just admit you screwed up Bettman so we can move on already.

poetica
Hey look at that. The NHL made $30M over what they paid for the team. And had tax payers cover their loses while they owned it. Gotta give it up for those millionaires and billionaires who take "all the risks" in sports team ownership.
