[Report] Phoenix could host an All-Star Game in near future

Recommended Posts

Gary Bettman said “it’ll be our pleasure” to honor Coyotes, do they even have hockey fans down there?:

Not very long ago, it seemed possible that the Phoenix Coyotes would end their days in Glendale. Now it appears that Jobing.com Arena could very well host a future All-Star Game.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman didn’t commit to a specific year, but he told the Arizona Republic’s Sarah McLellan that it’s in the league’s plans.

“We’re going to do that at some point,” Bettman said. “I don’t know what the date is yet but it’ll be our pleasure to honor a commitment to bring the All-Star Game here.”

Coyotes alternate governor Anthony LeBlanc made it clear to Arizona Sports’ 620 on Tuesday that doing so is one of the new ownership goals.

“We have had the discussions with the league; that is part of our agreement,” LeBlanc said. “The time-frame is what’s in question because there’s a fair amount of work that has to go into it to ensure that the proper accommodations and (that) it’s not a conflict with another major event.”

One year that could probably be crossed off the list is 2015, as the Arizona Cardinals will host the Super Bowl then.

Bettman and LaBlanc indicate that it’s just a matter of time, though.

Bettman is force feeding Arizona so much to keep another hockey team away from Canada it's stupidly ridiculous! Even the dumbest of people know that Arizona/Phoenix hasn't worked in the past and present and still won't going forward.

It's like wanting an alcoholic to stop drinking but you continually see him fail and he gets back to his old ways. Same thing here, the pattern will always remain the same, and Bettman can just f off. That POS is such an @ss; just give it up and relocate to Canada or Seattle you arrogant douche.

You're joking right? Minnesota wasn't even half capacity during the last ASG, they were giving tickets away to the skills events and game itself if I remember right. And they're a hockey mad market. When Glendale is only filling 7000 seats some nights why the hell would you try this? Want to make money push this event to Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver not bloody Phoenix. I swear to god this situation looks like one of those pageant moms who has her 4 year old made up like a doll and is gripping her arm so hard she cries telling everyone, My baby loves these things...tell them honey...TELL THEM YOU LOVE PAGEANTS with mascara running down her face and a half eaten mcnugget in her back teeth. I feel sorry for the city of Glendale more and more as the taxpayers are getting dryhumped out of their money over this whole. In fact, show of hands, who has been to the rink in Phoenix?

lol everyone saying Phoenix won't be there long enough to host the game. Really? You still believe that? I think Bettman and the NHL are pretty clear that they aren't giving up on that market anytime soon.

Now I personally (like many people) could not possibly care any less about the All Star Game. However when I was a little kid I thought it was pretty cool. I am sure the NHL is aiming at getting some kids into the building and watching hockey. The obvious hope being that they will create some fans.
