-Vintage Canuck-
GM Doug Armstrong admits it’ll be an important contract: St. Louis Blues fans might be feeling a little anxious about the team’s contract negotiations with star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, especially after Sunday’s non-update. GM Doug Armstrong understands the restlessness, but he explained why the team isn’t rolling out a specific deadline to the Bellevue News-Democrat on Tuesday. “I don’t make any deadlines because once you pass the deadline you’re going to go back on your word or you’ve painted yourself in a corner,” Armstrong said. “Our goal is to get Alex signed prior to training camp –and I hope that’s his goal, too.” Pietrangelo draws comparisons to Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, whose negotiations went so long that he seemed a bit unprepared for the 2011-12 season. If that parallel holds, he’ll be a big part of the team’s future once this washes over. (The Blues likely hope to avoid Doughty’s $7 million cap hit, however.) While fans might be getting impatient, Armstrong notes how significant this contract could be and prefers the steady approach. “It’s an important contract for the organization, but it’s nothing out of the norm of what I’ve done n the past,” Armstrong said. “There’s a lot under the surface on these negotiations and it’s probably better to stay under the surface. I don’t think the fans really want to hear any more whining about economics, they want to see hockey.” “He’ll get done when he gets done and that’s all I can say about it.” http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/08/06/blues-gm-aims-to-sign-pietrangelo-by-training-camp/

TACIC
[rumor] Teams want to sign players at cheapest price. I don't see why this is a thread we all know GMs are trying to sign RFAs before training camp
Drouin
I doubt it happens. Probably sign a week or two in the season like Subban
AFrame14
Of course it will take 7 mil to sign him. I think if rather have petrianglo over doughty anyways.

Plum
http://www.hockeybuz...75#.UiOkazakrSQ With the start of NHL training camps about a week away and the start of the St. Louis Blues' preseason schedule two weeks away, the simmering contract negotiation between unsigned restricted free agent Alex Pietrangelo and Blues general manager Doug Armstrong is about to get turned up to a full boil after Labor Day. The two sides are still far apart on a potential megabucks long-term contract and it looks like the focus will be on a shorter, "bridge" contract. However, there is still apparently a rather sizable gap in that regard as well. More and more, it's looking like Pietrangelo could miss the start of training camp. I think this is going to come right down to the wire of the season starting before a compromise deal on a bridge contract is reached -- unless one side or the other blinks first. Stay tuned.... plenty more to come on this one. It is Eklund but still something to read.
Avicii
2 years at 4.5 million ish, then the big contract after. Everyone knows what Pietrangelo is going to become... But if St. Louis is insisting on a bridge contract, 4.5 Million for 2 years seems fair enough. He'll be getting upwards of 7+ after though no matter what.. Pietrangelo will become a top 5 defenseman in the NHL, just a matter of time.

Avicii
If both sides thought 2 x $4.5 million was fair, don't you think Pietrangelo would've been signed by now?
Drouin
A bridge contract would make sense, if he can sign one and do what Subban did, he'll get a huge raise.
