Danthecanucksfan
I strongly agree with the shootouts, they need to go, now! Its not the proper way to end a hockey game.

TimberWolf
Lots to tackle here: 1: agree that no one should get a point when they lose. 2: At the same time, I would rather have a tie then a shootout. Shootouts help get teams in the playoffs that cannot compete there. 3: Over the glass sucks, but I don't think it happens often enough to remove the penalty. Too many teams would abuse on a penalty kill otherwise and we know what happens when we leave it up to refs to interpret at will. 4: Hybrid icing would have saved many a career. All for it. 5: Diving sucks. It needs to be tackled with the force that it's not acceptable anywhere. 6: Bettman and the owners are a part of the NHL, like or not. I especially hated Bettman ruining Ray Bourque finally winning but having a special guest is one step away from having hollywood celebs making it even worse. Better the devil we know. 7: Bigger nets? No. That's lipstick on a pig or a band-aid on a severed limb. Just means that more crappy goals could go in and does nothing to make a more entertaining product unless all one does is read box scores. What needs to happen is refs have to call all obstruction penalties till trap teams finally get the message. That goes for all teams equally and not laying off because they are in a fragile market. 8: I believe the number one pick should go to the team that just missed the playoffs the closest. Help teams on the cusp of greatness instead of rewarding crappy teams. Those bad teams will still rule the mid draft and can get themselves closer to the top by fixing from within trather then being bailed out of their own ineptness. 9: Redefine a late hit by a specific rule and not the uniforms would be a great start. 10/11 Fighting needs a hard look as it doesn't prevent a rat from hacking. Look at Marchand. All he does is hide behid hara and Lucic. Your goon fighting their goon does nothing. What would work would be rule enforcement where the league would punish rat players for behind the play infractions with suspensions. 12: see 7 13: ref mic? Meh either way 14/15: Uniforms are fine, I prefer black for home, but that's just me, I may be alone and not really worried about it. 16: As long as every goalie has the same rule of equipment size then fixing obsturction will result in skilled players making goals happen rather then allowing fabricated offense by hindering the goalie. 17: Teams that have to use tricks to hit the cap floor year after year should be moved or folded. 18: Not sure how they cannot disclose terms in a cap system. 19: While I can understand fans wanting to know what is hurt on a player, we really don't want other teams knowing that. "Oh? Kesler has a sore hip? Hit him there tonight till he's out of the series" Too many players are not noble but mercenary scum and have no problem ending a players career if it gets them up the depth chart 20: Winter classics are overdone. No argument. 21: Banning hits to the head outright is quirky in a league that allows punching to the head. 22: Coaches challenge would be awful as long as the league allows refs to interpret rules as they please. Make a ref look bad in game 5? Pay for it in game 6. 23: All star game is silly, but it's more for the players. They are having fun or getting some rest in a too long season. I say let it be. 24: Suspensions should never EVER be ruled by decree. There should be a specific set of rules that are enforced and jusged by a panel that has a mix of former players, refs and experts. Until that happens the NHL will be a joke amongst the top sport leagues in North America.

TheTruthHurts
Don't know. You tell us. I was just following your "don't like it, don't watch" logic. Why do think you're entitled to comment on things you don't like but everyone else isn't?
RWMc1
Icing should be moved back to the blueline to make it harder to clog up the neutral zone. Goalies should have to play the puck immediately or within 2 seconds when behind the net. Back off a little on the holding and interfering entering the offensive zone. The game is pretty good now, but a few tweaks wouldn't hurt.
poetica
When did I say people are not entitled to comment on things? And you should look up the definition logic and compare it with respect to content.

TheTruthHurts
Do you know what "context" is? Your "Don't like the way it is, don't watch it." comment was made in a thread specifically about people commenting on what they do not like about the NHL. Given that context, why would one assume you meant people should stop watching the NHL but not also stop commenting on it? Does that really sound logical to you? And why do you still not understand the hypocrisy of telling people to not watch the NHL if they don't like everything about it, but then reading and commenting in threads you obviously don't like? Shouldn't you take your own advice and if you don't like them, don't read them?
babych
I'm not in favour of hybrid icing as it puts yet another judgement call into the hands of the refs. I would, however, be in favour of no-touch icing.
poetica
To answer your first paragraph: interpretation of context is biased. To answer your second paragraph: hypocrisy would be me telling people "don't like it, don't watch it" and then posting how to improve the nhl on my own behalf. So your application of hypocrisy is incredibly flawed here because it describes two different acts. I may not like the topic, but I can still post my opinion. IS that not the very intent of the forums? And you don't know me, what if I am indifferent about this topic? Oh and the fallacy you are applying here is called "Accident". Hairy Kneel
Get rid of the second referee, put the extra ref in the booth>calling goal reviews (and diving violations and head shots), therefore ALL calls go through ONE head referee not two, ie like we only have ONE head coach, cleans up the 'style' the game is called> when whistles get put away fer instance. TheTruthHurts
So no actual answers then? Just avoidance through pointless theory? Okay. (A friendly tip: This is a conversation, not a formal debate. If you think someone misunderstood you, just try to explain what you meant. Trying to overwhelm an argument with abstract theory and a linguistic register not indicated by the situation does not make you look smarter, only desperate. But don't feel bad, it's a common mistake especially made by people delighting in the joy of newly acquired knowledge. True mastery of knowledge comes with proper application.) But you're right, you can post your comments because the purpose of an NHL forum is to invite people to comment. Obviously, that invitation applies to all of us equally, which was my point. Your understanding of hypocrisy seems to have been skewed by your attempt to tailor its definition to suit your own devices. Hypocrisy refers to claiming a belief and then acting counter to that belief, not to committing an identical act to one you condemned. You expressed the idea that someone who does not like something should simply avoid it, and then you did the exact opposite yourself. Arguing that that opinion should be applied only in cases that suit your purposes so as to avoid ever applying to you is hypocritical. Oh, and I didn't make an accident fallacy. (What general rule did I misapply?) If you'd like to try to explain the logic behind (apparently) saying people should not watch then NHL if they don't like it, but should feel free to continue to comment on something even after they on longer have any direct knowledge of it, go ahead. Or, we could just agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions, even if we don't agree with them.
