Guest Pinchin
I think certain Canuck fans believe GMMG has a worse rep than he does. It's some of the same folks who can't get over our fan base being hated on as well. We are only hated as much as we hate. Outside of rival markets, Canucks fans are not factored. Ask a Leaf fan if they care that they are hated...it's pretty cut and dry, get over it, cheer for your team and don't care what rival fans think. Snake Doctor
I think he has a good reputation around the league but he has had so many adversities in, Luongo/Schnieder, Molholtra, Hodgson, and trades that have not panned out that his reputation at home in Vancouver is questioned. Monty
No better or worse then other GMs. Players still like playing in Vancouver and sign for less then they'd get on the open market. This tells me that he, along with his team, has put together an atmosphere that players want to play in. I mean, look at Ken Holland. How many trades does he make? Does that mean that he has a bad reputation?

Honky Cat
It's somewhat irrelevant what his reputation is around the league...It's business and you don't burn any bridges..NHL GM's who hold grudges (Brian Burke,Kevin Lowe) against one another usually dont last that long. Salmonberries
I think he came in with political baggage, and brought an agents mindset to the job early on. I thought he was an awful choice to succeed Dave Nonis as gm. But I think he's a pretty sharp guy with very legit NHL hockey cred, and that he's rounded into being a pretty good NHL hockey exec in the last three or so years. Salmonberries
Just further to what I said a minute ago. If you look at his record; the Sundin saga, the Luongo monster deal and captaincy, the Demitra signing and the Backes offer sheet, the three bad drafts of 08, 09, 10, this was all early, learning-on-the-job growing pains stuff that just about any rookie gm would go through. That we lived through it was unnecessary, regrettably, but now we have a seasoned, very competent gm that has had three straight very good drafts and made some nice moves. Even canned Vig (though a year earlier would have been optimum there). So after putting in time developing this guy on the job, why let him go now? I say we keep him. viking mama
Actually Mike Milbury and Mike Gillis are real close friends so I am sure he learned a few things from Mad Mike. As far as Milbury's rep most people don't understand the restraints he had to work with. The NHL owned the Isles for years thanks to Bettman bringing in a crocked owner who couldn't pay the bills. So he was forced to trade any player that made over 1 million per season so it was a fire sale every year. Which team wouldn't want to trade with you when you are giving away Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe, Bryan Berard, Zdeno Chara,Olli Jokinen, Roberto Luongo etc. Mike Gillis has burned a lot of bridges from his years as an agent, for example. Brian Burke and Nonis with the Bure situation and then coming in as the new GM and basically calling Nonis out as a failure which was not inaccurate but in bad taste. He falsely drove up the market on Glen Sather making Bobby Holik a 9 million per season contract. He promised Kevin Lowe that Nylander would sign on the dotted line the next day with a press conference already scheduled only to pull out after the deal was already made. He has done much more but I don't have all day to go through all the shady dealings in his past. There is a reason the rest of the GM's in the NHL have watched him squirm with the Luongo situation. They knew he was in a bad place and he continued to make it worse by trying to one up everybody and fleece someone in a trade. He asked for too much because of his pride and ego and even Luongo's agent said as much. He does rub people the wrong way and if you don't take my word for it just listen to this interview for it reeks of smugness and arrogance. BureisBest
Gillis is also an ex-NHL player, which brings him respect in the hockey world. I know he is on good terms with Ken Holland, and he runs the class organization of the NHL. That's all I need to hear, but the GM of the Year award seals it. This mostly stems from Toronto, and Toronto is a joke.
Edlerberry
I think so. What would Samuelsson or Sturm bring that Booth hasn't at this point? Booth's still got potential and he's capable of being a very good player if he stays healthy.
brenbowa
That's it? This is the clip that supposedly suggests that MG is a total jerk?! LOL..all 36 seconds of it?! He was getting some clarification on the interveiwer's identity in his mind's eye. How else would you describe Moj to someone? He asked if Moj (Bob) was the big bald guy...& decribed what Moj was doing the last time they were introduced or met. He said nothing about Moj being fat. Prior to seeing this clip...I didn't know what "the Moj" looked like for sure - either. Gheez....you`re a tough critic. Better stay out of sports bars, church bazaars & strata meetings - 'cuz your sensibilities would never be able to deal with all of the slights and affronts....supposedly comin' at ya. Sorry - I can`t buy what your sellin`. MG came across fine. He was being open & glib....which may have been Moj`s personna the 1st time that they met or were introduced. viking mama
I guess its okay with you when someone asks you a legitimate question and Gillis makes it personal by attacking Moj for no apparent reason and you find this acceptable? Maybe you need a decoder ring to figure this out but when someone suggests that you are "big" and "eating all the food in the press box" than they probably are telling you that you are fat. Perhaps you have Stockholm Syndrome and like the abuse the people give you or maybe you have read the mommy porn that is 50 Shades of Grey one too many times. When someone is being professional and asking you a question its simple don't be jerk and answer it but, Gillis couldn't even do that. There is a reason Gillis is not liked around the league and the reasons have been stated many times. He acts like he is better and smarter than everyone else in the room and if he has the Cup rings to prove it then maybe you can get away with acting this way. Since he doesn't, he better keep his mouth shut until Aquillini finally listens to the majority of fans and fire him like they did with AV. TimberWolf
Samuelsson made Kesler a 40 goal scorer. Booth scored one empty netter in 12 games.
The Lock
What dya mean he couldn't answer a question? We don't know that? You only posted a 36 second clip! What was said after MG clarified who he was talking to? MG was previously introduced to a guy named "Bob". "Bob" had strolled into some press box...or a suite as a comped guest...maybe glowin' from a couple of brewskis & he was possibly a lot chummier & glib upon their first aquaintance. I think MG's tone was reflecting that. Moj had switched gears for his interveiw. That's my take. The man has previously been awarded best NHL-GM of the year honors. That's a signifigant amount of respect. I'm trustin' my instincts here. Like I said before...I'm not buyin' what you're sellin'. And - a 36 sec. sound-bite outta full-context...isn't bolstering your sales-pitch much.
