Maxim Lapierre virtually begged to sign in Montreal

Recommended Posts

I was/ am a big Lappy fan. but his constant back talking refs last season was one of the major reasons we couldn't catch a break with the refs. At least burr can put his head down and not yap all game at the refs when the calls aren't going our way. I also thought all that mystery muscle he put on in the extended off season really affected his lateral movement ability and first step quickness. He had been a much more effective player in previous seasons.

I can guarntee Torts wouldn't have put up with his smug poop eating grin for long. The only reason Av could was because his was even better. Would have been fun to see a dressing room smugdown! between AV and Lappy.

The culture needed to change this team can't keep leaning on the fact that they were one game away as a crutch. Lets face it we were beat convincingly in that series. I hope torts can get this teams ego in check IMO thats the biggest problem this team has.

I don't understand why Lapierre never got a real opportunity to anchor the 3rd line centre position. He did awesome filling in for Malholtra during the 2011 SCF run. But after that, he never really got a real chance to play that position again even after Hodgson got traded, Kesler got injured, and Pahlsson walking.

And in the playoffs this year, AV barely used him.

With all due respect, you're comparing a pair of ufas who signed for 5.1 million in Dallas, to a pair of depth centers the Canucks signed for 1.7 - calling Richardson a "pylon" indicates that you don't really know anything about the player.

I like Lapierre as well, but as usual, people are getting carried away after a player's departure, blowing his indispensibility out of proportion. Lapierre lost a step putting on extra bulk before last season. Richardson is a different type of player who is certainly capable of replacing Lapierre.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say with those stats? That Richardson has a good Corsi rating? He did but he also had pretty terrible Corsi Rel Qoc meaning that while he did put up decent Corsi numbers he was consistantly playing against the weakest competition, 12 place in both years you showed of only players who played 40 + games. He also started both those seasons 53% in O zone and ended up in 50% in D zone.

Lappy in 10/11 had 8th best Corsi Rel QoC but started 46% ozone ended 48 % ozone

and in 11/12 had 11th best Corsi Rel Qoc but started 22% ozone ended 45% ozone

Basically what I'm saying is that Lappy was asked to handle much harder minutes than Richardson and I'm not confident that MG has done enough to replace him. Richardson is a different type of player I agree but I don't think he is capable of replaceing Lappy, I think we will see a return of Kesler taking the Lionshare of tough minutes and relying on the other 3 lines to score.
