The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with forward Zach Boychuk on a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Tuesday. It will pay Boychuk $550,000 on the NHL level or $105,000 on the American Hockey League level.

Boychuk, 23, split last season between Carolina, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators in the NHL and the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL. The Airdrie, Alberta native had two points (one goal) in 13 NHL games and ranked second among Charlotte skaters in goals (23) and third in points (43).

Carolina’s first-round selection (No. 14) in the 2008 NHL Draft, Boychuk (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) has 20 points (eight goals) in 85 NHL games with Carolina, Pittsburgh and Nashville. He has 189 points (81 goals) in 227 AHL games with the Albany Devils and Charlotte and ranks second all-time among Checkers skaters in goals (66), assists (86) and points (152).

Boychuk has represented Canada in international competition, winning gold at the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Championships.
