If anything he'll walk in UFA Edit: on the other hand, if Buffalo wants to tank for a couple years and trade Miller at the deadline, that could happen. Darkstar Posted August 30, 2013 Author Share Posted August 30, 2013 This deal does somewhat make sense, contrary to popular belief. It's possible that more pieces will be added in the trade. Reasons for Colorado: 1) Duchene, O'Reilly, MacKinnon down the middle. Stastny is the odd man out and after a couple of rough seasons, he needs a change of scenery. If Colorado doesn't trade him, he guaranteed walks. 2) Varlamov has not proven to be the true starting tender that the Avs need. He's been incredibly subpar since arriving in Colorado. There's a likely chance that Miller stays in Colorado long term as well since it's in the Western Conference. 3) Colorado potentially becomes an immediate playoff contender in this trade Reasons for Buffalo: 1) The goalie market is pure crap. Nobody is going to give futures for Miller, without a big contract coming back. 2) Stastny allows Hodgson, Ennis and Grigorenko to have more sheltered minutes, which they all need. Cody is a better fit for the 2C position anyways at this point. 3) Stastny has had a rough couple of seasons and a change of scenery along with playing with an elite winger in Vanek can turn his career around. There are people here that believe Buffalo gets wrecked and some that believe that the Avs get wrecked but it's actually a fair deal that benefits both sides. Miller is a sizable upgrade in net for Colorado. For Buffalo, Stastny would immediately become their #1 center. This could also take away some leverage from Cody Hodgson as he'd no longer be their best center. Or he'd just demand another trade. theminister Posted August 30, 2013 Share Posted August 30, 2013 I think Colorado may just want to rid themselves of Statsny's contract and getting a vet goalie like Miller with only one year left on his deal may work for them. There maybe no market for him at all. For Buffalo, they take on a crappy contract but get an asset they can use for one they can't seem to find a buyer for at all.
