Danthecanucksfan
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_addiction An interesting topic to research on if you have time to kill. I find it deeply disturbing when I read about some of the deaths that are linked to Video Game Addiction. Here are a couple that stand out to me. Absolutely Unacceptable. In Jacksonville, Florida, Alexandra Tobias pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for shaking her baby to death. She told investigators that the baby boy's crying had interrupted her while she was playing a Facebook game called FarmVille. She was sentenced in December 2010. Guest
These people are ****ed in the head to do these things. It isn't because of the games. They just use them as an excuse. Just like how before it was movies and music
theminister
I suspect those people had mental illness issues to begin with although the negligent mother is saddening. The more disturbing ones for me are the Korean kids wearing diapers to gaming halls and dying from lack of sleep. That's some powerful addiction. -AJ-
I can barely even stand to read this stuff. It seriously disgusts me. I'm a big gamer, to be sure, but it's still not even close to being a big priority on my list.

Danthecanucksfan
Anyone else think they could make a T.V show out of this? Kind of like Intervention or Hoarders, you get a 1st hand look at the issue, and professionals try and figure out how to help the individual that is the problem. Bruce Boudreau
Jeez and here I thought a porn addiction and the hyper-sexing of society was causing these gruesome deaths. Sick stuff all around. Technology is supposed to bring people together but ironically all it has done is reduce people's socials skills and ability to communicate and connect with one another, therefore resulting in a loss of confidence and leading to a host of problems like depression and anger issues. Offensive Threat
First it was movie violence causing murders. Then MTV. Then video games...actually the murder rate peaked in the late 80s, so yeah, it was MTV.

Monty
One thing that disturbs me when I play online (which I just started w/ The Last of Us) is hearing how many people are playing while their infant child is crying right beside them. They don't do anything, they just keep playing and yell at the kid once in a while to shut up. How any parent can do this and feel good about themselves is beyond me. avelanch
numerous cases of deaths resulting from extended play sessions in asia (especially korea) too. the self deaths are usually result of dehydration, not sleeping for days at a time, or not going to the bathroom. Those are most likely the result of an addictive disorder, which if it wasn't videogames, it would have been something else, maybe not something that would kill, but something that would have ruined their lives without treatment. http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/addictive-disorders-and-dependence.htm as for the people who kill others, that's also a result of a mental disorder, as it's clear that 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of people who play videogames do not kill others.
