CDC NHL Predictions League 2013/14

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen anyone running one this year so I figured I'd create a thread. If one exists already and I've failed to notice it then mods feel free to delete.

Rules

- 2 points will be awarded for predicting the correct outcome of a game

- An additional 3 points will be awarded for predicting the correct scoreline

- Scores will be totaled at the end of the game week and standings will be updated in a spreadsheet and posted in the main post of this thread.

- Bonus points may be awarded to the game week winner. We'll see how things pan out.

- Players will be ranked by total points. % points earned will also be posted and used in the event of a tie, but rankings will be primarily based on total points.

- Don't try to edit your posts after the games have started. I'm not stupid

I've posted the schedule for this week in the main post. Feel free to just copy and paste them. I won't be anywhere near as good at running this as TGC, but we'll see how it goes. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could improve it then I'm all ears.

You can post your picks on a daily basis or the whole week at once. Entirely up to you.

Devils @ Oilers Devils 3-2

Rangers @ Kings Kings 4-1

- I realise that there may be nights where people are unable to post their picks on time and that there will inevitably be people who join us a little later. For that reason players will be ranked based on the percentage of possible points earned. For example, 6 games a night @ a maximum of 5 points per game, so 30 points = 100%, 15 points earned = 50% etc.

I'm not really a fan of this rule. A suggestion would be keeping it the same way it has always been. Instead of ranking it by percentages, how about just total points. If someone predicts the scores for just one day and gets them all right and doesn't play from there on, he'll be always winning at 100%. With people missing games at times will make it more interesting with guys catching from behind, etc.

OK, that's a fair point. I'll do it by total points.

I'll calculate the percentage too though just out of interest and possibly as a tiebreaker should teams be even in the standings.

Will you be doing Month-by-Month where after the end of each Month you announce the Top 3 Winners (Gold, Silver, Bronze)? But at the same time still keep a separate list for the Overall Total Points since first started.
