[Discussion] Filip Kuba

Recommended Posts

#4 on Friedman's latest "30 Thoughts"

"Filip Kuba, bought out by Florida after last season, held off on an overseas deal to train in Tampa in hopes of another NHL shot. Don't think he'll be overly expensive, either."

His last full season;

2011-12 Ottawa Senators, GP73 G6 A26 PTS32 +26 26PIMS

He's used to logging big minutes. Always 20-24minutes per game over the years.

On a bottom pair here he would bring the size and reach and mobility the Nucks could use on the back end. Although he's not 'physical'. And the ability to play higher minutes if/when injuries happen.

Waive Alberts and/or Weber?

Thoughts, shakes of the head?

We could use him to calm down our nervous younger guys. Bieksa and Hamhuis in particular have been turnover machines, even Edler and Garrison have coughed it up and been caught out of position a few times. Plus, young guys like Stanton, Tanev and Corrado will crack in pressure games like the playoffs against bigger, faster, more physical opponents (they did big time against Boston, L.A and San Jose's forward pressure).

Sign him to an 800K, 1 year deal.

Edler - Garrison

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Tanev - Kuba

Stanton

Weber

Alberts

Corrado

With the injuries this team will sustain over the course of the season, the more depth the better.

Some of you people really don't know who Kuba is. He can create offence - although his best may be past him at this point - but he's not a reliable defender as evidenced by my post earlier talking about his 66/23 giveaway to takeaway ratio in his last season with the Sens. That's a -43 in favour of giveaways!
