SN:

The Edmonton Oilers may soon be adding another former great from their past to the front office.

According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, Mark Messier could soon join the club in a part-time scouting capacity.

While nothing is official, don't be surprised if Mark Messier surfaces part-time in Edmonton. He'll likely do some scouting/project work.

Messier currently works in the New York area and would not likely move to Edmonton if he took a role with the Oilers.

Messier has full time gig with Kingsbridge Arena project in NYC,but doesn't want to be totally out of the show,in case an NHL job comes up.

Last summer Messier expressed interest in and interviewed for the New York Rangers head coaching vacancy before the job was awarded to Alain Vigneault.

Messier, a former Oilers captain, spent 12 seasons in Edmonton where he won five Stanley Cups with the franchise.

Edmonton currently has former Oilers Kevin Lowe and Craig McTavish in premier positions in the front office.

So having just Kevin Lowe didn't work. So instead of getting rid of him, they kept him and added MacTavish. So now that's not working, let's add another ex-Oiler.

Does Edmonton know they can hire people who are qualified for the position needed?
