London Knights (Horvat/Liberate) vs Belleville (Guance/Subban)

Belleville getting killed 6-1 late in the 3rd.

Gaunce and Subban both have an assist

Horvat 3 pt night, goal and two assists.

Assessment:

1. Horvat has looked pretty good, noticed his hands, skating looking pretty good and his stride is very good.

2. Gaunce really is a bad skater. He doesn't move his legs enough and never really seems to 'push'. He seems very light on his skates, he really needs to work not only on his speed but his explosiveness and keep his legs moving. Announcers mentioned Belleville coaches want more out of him offensively. He is kind of looking like a lazy player (seems to want to just play in 'spots' vs creating/driving hard to force players to deal with him, and that won't get him to the next level).

3. Subban looked pretty good, playing hard, good passes, mixing it up with Domi once.

Would have expected Gaunce to go back and really see a more effort/drive from him and have watched 3 games now and haven't really seen anything different than what i saw tonight.

Horvat seems to be trying to push harder.

Granted London is a much better team but that should mean Gaunce has more 'room' to take control and try to be more.

Total blowout, and i feel bad for Gaunce because the team he's on isn't doing him any favors. Horvat looked great with the Ruperts. (Sign em MG!)

they're munchkins but if they keep playing that way someone will give them a try out...they seem to have great hands

i dont feel bad for Guance. they guy is a first round draft pick, he certainly wasn't playing like he wants to be a difference maker, just seemed to be going through the motions, which is what worries me...

Gaunce has pretty much done as much as he can in junior with the team he's with. There isn't really anything left to prove.

That's one of the downside of sending prospects back to junior... they can pickup bad habits.

leaders don't get disinterested. your argument would then suggest horvat and shink should also be disinterested.

moroever, Gaunce has not done everything he can in junior

1. He was not even been a pt per game player in junior yet, improve that

2. Clearly his compete level and skating need to improve (along with strength)

3. He has not DOMINATED in the OHL so he has ALOT TO PROVE..he's not McKinnon bro, and guess what even Drouin was sent back to Junior so if that guy can be in the Q, I certainly think there is lots for Gaunce to prove in the O

disagree buddy...

horvat is going to be awesome

gaunce is going to be a bust

this is obvious - look at their points!

a little too early to call guance a bust...the kid is big, plays well positionally, just needs to get stronger, faster and perhaps there is something wrong on a personal level (ie to get that hunger)

but too early, he's 19 yrs old

Both are Maple Leaf property.

Ryan was drafted in the 6th round in 2012, and Matt was signed as a FA.

Even if he dominates junior, it'll only because he's a man among boys. He has already proven last season that he's a great 2-way PPG player who is able to raise his game in the post-season. Unlike Shinkurak or Horvat, this is his second time sent back to junior, and Gaunce's game is to be a defensive specialist first, so getting points is kinda irrelevant at this level.

His team is very weak this year, not a good environment for further development. So hopefully he will be part of the WJC and maybe traded to a contending team.

If only he was sent to play in Europe or something. A larger ice rink will force him to work on his skating and playing against men will be much more challenging.

There's also a mental aspect as well when you're talking about prospects. Gaunce has been sent down twice. He didn't look bad in preseason, and prospects camp. Maybe he is taking the demotion a lot harder?

If he was invisible during preseason, then I'd worry. Besides if you haven't noticed we have four lines on our team. It's possible Gaunce might be a great 3rd/4th liner, with a possible upside. Remember all the criticism that the Sedin's had on their skating?

Remember people were saying Kesler will be nothing more than a 3rd liner?

I think the most impressive thing for Gaunce is that he is showing he can put a team on his back and still put up points in the face of crippling line mates.

So unfair he had to get sent down, this kid needs Europe as a previous poster said as he's not AHL eligible
