Chicago roster vs Vancouver roster - how far away are the Canucks

Chicago roster and cap hit versus Vancouver roster and cap hit. Interesting to line the two teams up side by side and look at the choices that have been made. No question that Chicago has the advantage on forward...but Kesler and Booth could close the gap if they were full value for their salaries. Chicago's defense is deeper but not by much. Goaltending is pretty close.

Chicago cap hit Vancouver cap hit advantage

Toews 6,300,000 Henrik 6,100,000 v

Kane 6,300,000 Daniel 6,100,000 c

Hossa 5,275,000 Kesler 5,000,000 c

Sharp 5,900,000 Booth 4,250,000 c

Bickell 4,000,000 Burrows 4,500,000 v

Kruger 1,325,000 Higgins 2,500,000 v

Handzus 1,000,000 Hansen 1,350,000 c

Saad 764,167 Kassian 867,000 c

Pirri 618,000 Schroeder 600,000 c

Nordstrom 616,000 Santorelli 550,000 v

Shaw 577,000 Richardson 1,150,000 -

Bollig 575,000 Sestito 600,000 -

Smith 562,000 Weise 600,000 -

Seabrook 5,800,000 Edler 5,000,000 c

Keith 5,538,000 Garrison 4,600,000 c

Hjalmarsson3,500,000 Bieksa 4,500,000 v

Oduya 3,383,000 Hamhuis 4,500,000 v

Leddy 2,700,000 Tanev 1,500,000 -

Rozsival 2,200,000 Stanton 550,000 c

Brookbank 1,250,000 Weber 550,000 c

Kostka 625,000 Alberts 600,000 c

Crawford 2,666,667 Luongo 5,333,333 -

Khabibulin 1,750,000 Lack 875,000 c IMO the big difference is Kesler and Booth are not as good as Sharp and Hossa. And Daniel is losing ground vs Kane. Defense is close but Seabrook and Keith are superior to the top 4 of the Canucks. Goaltending is close.

Chicago does have the better depth on wing (Sharp, Bickell, Kane, Hossa etc) but we have them covered at center. IMO we are a top six forward away from matching them. On defense I think we have the better top 5: Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Garrison, Tanev compared to Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Oduya, Leddy, if we still had Ballard our defence would be better. I'd still take Luongo over Crawford today despite what happened last spring.

your drunk, correlation does not imply causality!

your comparing salary as it being equal to skill level....

our top three forwards are better and cheaper

our goalie is better and twice the price

our top 4 defensemen beats theirs and its more expensive

your also comparing this years salary to past years performances

I don't drink. And, judging by your pretentious username I'd say you are an intellectual lightweight wannabe. The post is meant to promote discussion of how close the Canucks are to being as good a team as Chicago. You have drawn a number of conclusions. Good for you. I didn't make any propositions other than head to head comparisons. You are arguing with yourself Niles.

One big difference with their 2 cup runs compared to ours was a guy like Byfuglien (11 goals) and Bickell (9 goals) stepping up. We didn't have anyone that took it to another level.

Anyways, their top players are better than ours. It's that simple.

Crawford was also very good in their run, Niemi wasn't but they didn't need him to be.

Their team is better all around except for maybe goaltending but their backup is probably better.

Top 6: Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Handzus, Saad, and still have Bickell, Shaw.

Sedins, Burrows, Kesler, Booth, Kassian. This isn't even close.

Garrison, Hamhuis<Keith, Seabrook.

Edler, Bieksa>Hjalmarsson, Oduya.

Tanev, Stanton<Roszival, Leddy.

Chicago definitely has the upper hand.

I will say though...on paper, Chicago's team going into the playoffs wasn't necessarily the best on-paper.

Several question marks. But the key is they had several non-core guys step up

Bickell? Crawford? Shaw?...prior to last year there would be some doubts
