Getting Ehrhoff back

Hey guys, I dont usually do proposals cause i find them to be a waste of time since there is nothing we can do or say that would make them happen.

With the fire sale in buffalo i was wondering what it would take to get ehrhoff back. It always sucked that he left for big money but if you look at the contract he signed and what it is now, the big money has already been paid. Ehrhoffs cap his from here to the end of the contract is 4 mill and he makes no more then 4 mill between now and then as well. He is 31 right now and woul dbe 38 when his contract expires. Looking at our defense and comparing it to 2011. the only real changes with him back in the lineup would be garrison for salo and tanav a better tanav.

I personally dont think it would cost that much, perhaps a 2nd round pick. so questions

Do you think it would cost us more?

If so how much more?

Would it be worth it to get ehrhoff back?

And do you think he is still a good fit?

You lose Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa or Garrison to bring him in. His hit isn't that bad and Buffalo has now paid out a ton of his actual salary but let's be honest he's not going to supplant anyone on this team

If we could get him and then flip him for a solid return that's something but that would be addition by division (subtraction) or some such nonsense

Won't happen, he believes Buffalo is his best shot at a Stanley Cup :bigblush:

But what others have said, who of our D core would you sacrifice for Errorhoff? Personally I wouldn't sacrifice anyone, our D is finally starting to make less errors per game it seems

well the minutes could be more balanced and i would have our top 6 as

Edler Garrison

Hamhuis Bieksa

Tanav Ehrhoff

If u think about it, there are 120 mins to give out in the game, so u could potentially have 20 mins a game for each of these guys. or a little less for tanav and give that balance to one of the other 5. Our defence doesn't work like other teams. I dont see us having a ligit number 1 pairing a top PP unit, or a defacto number 1 2 3 or 4 defensman. for the past 5 or 6 years hour team has defence by committee almost with everyone doing there part and anyone of our so called top 4 taking on massive roles on any given night. In addition depth is always a good thing AND his cap hit is pretty much exactly what we wanted it to be when we were trying to resign him.

According to cap geek the canucks have 2.4 million in space for our annual average salary. that would mean that if we got him around the deadline when his hit would be around 1 mill it would work.

It's not about whether or not we have a true #1 D, but that we have 4 very good top 4 D. Tanev doesn't play the left side as well, so that wouldn't be a practical option. As far as cap, perhaps proration (does that even work the same this year?) would help for a partial season, but then we're still stuck with him going forward and wouldn't be able to fit him in with the current D properly without ignoring out forward needs.

There simply isn't room to bring in a player like Ehrhoff with our current roster.

His contract is devastating. He is a first pairing defense man on a horrible team. He would be a third pairing on our team.

pass.

Agreed ,

The reason we got rid of him was the contract he wanted, and that is why we don't want him back.

We can't afford his cap hit, not gonna happen.

He would be a nice addition to make our defense stacked but his contract is terrible.

Actually, his contract is really reasonable. The cap hit is only 4 million, which is lower than Edler, Garrison, Hamhuis and Bieksa. The upfront portion of the contract has almost already been paid out. 18 million two years back and 13 million last year.... now it's only 4 million in cash for 4 million cap hit... nothing wrong with that.

At age 36, his cash payment goes down, meaning his contract will become more attractive to weaker financial teams, those wanting to reach the cap floor without actually paying in cash for it.

Ehrhoff is only currently 31 and his contract runs out at 38-39. Considering his game is based on position and offense, age usually won't play too big of a role. While some may blame his poor defensive play, he actually got a decent amount of votes for the Norris a few years back (ranked #7 or something IIRC). His poor +/- in the playoff have a very strong correlation with the Sedins... so there's plenty of blame to go around. Worst case scenario in the latter years... he can just be a bottom pairing veteran and PP specialist.

Ehrhoff would be awesome. He is great at carrying / rushing the puck. I don't really know where he fits now that we have Garrison, and with the cap tight it might not be worth bringing in a 4M dman.

If we could somehow trade Booth + pick to Buffalo for Ehrhoff I would do it in a heartbeat. I love our top 6 but as soon as we get two injuries our D looks pretty crappy.
