tas
If Fox turns out similar to Kostitsyn, (over .5 ppg in 4 out of 6 NHL seasons) we got a pretty good free prospect. Can't complain with that. it looks nice on paper, but the reality is that 40 pt forwards that aren't at least physical or defensively solid have little place in the nhl these days. that said, i can't actually speak to fox's physicality or defensive ability first hand because i've never seen him play. avelanch
You have to wonder if the Connor & Connor (McDavid & Brown) "affect" is why Fox is having this great offensive season. His #'s/story are very similar to Marc-Antoine Pouliot. Pouliot had a couple of good seasons in the Q and was drafted in the first round in 2003 and had another good season in '03-'04. But as an overager in '04-'05 he got a new linemate and proceeded to score 40 more points than his previous best year. That linemate he got was Sidney Crosby in Rimouski who everyone knows McDavid is being compared to. Pouliot's NHL career never really took off and he's no longer in the league. Food for thought when evaluating prospects who suddenly have a hot season, especially one that was passed over in the draft. effect... not affect... Knoblauch said Fox projects as a versatile third-liner at the pro level. “I think he’ll be a guy who won’t be scoring at the rate he is in junior, but he’ll be a third-line NHL guy with power play opportunities just because of how well he shoots the puck and how well he distributes it.” http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+take+flyer/9344626/story.html So a Chris Higgins type player? From what i read, it doesn't mention physicality being a problem.

Henrik Kesler
Isn't that technically elite third line production? And if by elite third line production, you mean realistic second line production, then yes.

Brings us back to the Bolland comparisons. They're the same size and Bolland has been a 30-40 point guy as a third liner for most of his career. aGENT
6'0" and 185lbs at 21 while certainly not "huge" isn't exactly small either.
tas
Isn't that technically elite third line production? if done consistently, absolutely. if its 30 pts one year, 40 the next, 25, 35 etc. then i'd say good 3rd liner, very good potentially if the 2 way game is that solid (bolland, manny, what have you). 40 pts is realistic 2nd line production on a team in the bottom 2/3 of the standings i'd say. CanuckinEdm
nowhere did i say he was a bad pick up. i'm just saying that if he turns out like sergei kostitsyn he won't last in the nhl. Kostitsyn's problems were not his play It was the fact he wasn't a team player (breaking curfew giving up on plays ect) and he thought he was a gangster. if he played how he did and actually gave a damn he would be in the NHL and probably be very successful. tas
5g 5a in his last 12 games is significantly off his pace for this season. is he banged up? are teams just learning how to shut him down, or playing tighter d in general down the stretch? the slowdown started shortly after he signed. could it be that he viewed his overage year as his last opportunity to impress scouts, and once he signed and that internal pressure was gone he took his foot off the gas a bit? i'm hoping someone who watches the team could provide some insight into his recent play.
