The price to be paid for Sochi

I listened to Pierre McGuire raise a good point the other day. He mentioned that Vcr plays 15 games in the month of January plus travel ( half are road trips ) and todays game is a good indication. In less than 24 hours they play twice. There is little downtime or recovery time for players, infrequent practise time and the end product looks like a Sunday afternoon rec game....the problem is we're paying NHL ticket prices. The radio host summed it up by saying the January schedule looked like a used Bingo card. It's a rip off. Then come February the star players take a road trip from Hell pass through I'm guess ing 10 time zone and play yet another compacted tourneyment, then fly back....assuming they're not injured....another 10 hour multi hour or maybe days flight and resume yet another compavted schedule. No athlete would do this in normal times....think of maratghon runner needs to compete in a marathon a couple of times before they go to the summer Olympics...they'd laugh in your face. Think of soccer players in the EPL playing 15 games in a month they'd tare their hair out.

This is a joke and an expensive one for fans that end up paying big bucks for recreation quality games. Maybe this gets locked  the truth is said to hurt the most

Yes, good analysis. Now buy yer ticket, or move outa' the line so more suckers can squeeze in!

Take solace in the fact that a % of YOUR own ticket is sent down to Florida's coffers. They're low on funds, & have to buy some new shiny tarps to cover the upper-stands(old ones were tattered & frayed from overuse).

The WHA was probably the last HONEST stand pro athletes tried to take vs the approaching conglomerate-machine. You want truth & integrity, may's well build a time-machine.

Personally I'm a conscientious objector, who hasn't bought a ticket/merchandise in this particular millenium(saw through their schemes after observing a few Bettman, 'pressers', coupled with the 'foot in the crease rule'!).

Always loved hockey, & will certainly watch it free(when I've time). But HATE the corporation known today as the NHL. Dirty, manipulated & disingenuous.

This is partly why hockey players are considered among the toughest athletes, and soccer players are soft.

Wait, why is this Canucks Talk? All the other NHL teams have the same type of schedule where they get a number of games compressed more than normal at some point due to the Olympic break. Suck it up and move on, or convince everyone else in the world how not having NHL players in the Olympics is better.
