There's a hockey rink in Dodger Stadium in preparation for the start of the Stadium Series on January 25th between the Kings & Ducks. The ice crews laid the last layer of ice tonight to make it one-and-a-half inches thick after marking the ice on Sunday with a non-paint product that doesn't bleed. During the day the ice is protected by thermal wraps that keep the surface cool from the Southern California daytime heat.

Also, the NHL has taken over Yankee Stadium in preparation for the Stadium Series on January 26 & 29 featuring a metropolitan showdown between the Rangers, Devils & Islanders. The atmosphere is sure to be magical with the Superbowl in town the same week. Fans attending will be greeted by hockey-themed fan zone with interactive attractions, prizes and giveaways.

Congrats to Joe Thornton on his 1171st career point (54 this year), passing great Bobby Hull for sole possession of 48th on the NHL all-time points list. Jaromir Jagr (7th: 1727pts) & Teemu Selanne (13th: 1447pts) are the only other active players in the all-time top 50 for points. Thornton also sits 25th all-time for assists with 834. That's good for second most among active players behind Jagr (11th: 1031a) while Selanne (38th: 765a) is the only other active player in the top 50.
