Game Preview:

RANGERS (27-23-3) at DEVILS (22-19-11)

(2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at Yankee Stadium)

Last 10: New York 6-3-1; New Jersey 5-2-3

Season series: This is the fourth of five games. The New Jersey Devils won the previous three, most recently a 4-3 victory at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 7 when rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas ripped home a shot from the right point with 3:45 left in overtime. The Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

Big story: It's the first of two road games this week for the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium as part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. The Blueshirts will face the New York Islanders on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS2). The Rangers and Devils have been separated by two goals or less in 17 of the past 24 meetings. The Rangers have registered a point in 27 of their last 38 games against the Devils since 2007-08 (23-11-4).

What makes the Devils-Rangers rivalry unique in the eyes of Devils coach Peter DeBoer?

"I think when you live in this community, you realize you have lifelong fans of both teams that grow up, a lot of times, in the same household and that's very rare," DeBoer said. "You don't get that situation unless you have two major teams within a metropolitan area, so I think that's what makes this rivalry unique."

Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will make his 100th career start against the Rangers. Brodeur has started just two of the past eight games as Cory Schneider has been on a tear.

Team Scope:

Rangers: The Rangers carry a two-game losing streak into their game against the Devils. In a 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves and has held opponents to two or fewer goals in each of his past seven games (5-2-0, 1.43 goals-against average, .953 save percentage).

Defenseman Kevin Klein, acquired Wednesday from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Michael Del Zotto, logged 15:46 of ice time and blocked two shots in his Rangers debut. He skated alongside John Moore.

Coach Alain Vigneault said Lundqvist would start both outdoor games. Lundqvist has faced Brodeur in 39 career regular-season games, earning 24 wins with a 1.75 GAA, .930 save percentage and five shutouts.

"Having these two [stadium Series] games is real good for our group," Vigenault said Saturday.

Devils: Jacob Josefson, who has one assist in 16 games this season, will return to the lineup for the first time in 15 games and play left wing on the top line with center Travis Zajac and right wing Jaromir Jagr. Brodeur's next regular-season win against the Rangers will be the 50th of his career against the Blueshirts. He is currently 49-30-5 with 15 ties and nine shutouts. Jagr had two assists in a 2-1 victory against the Washington Capitals on Friday to boost his career assist total to 1,033, tying him with Mario Lemieux for 10th all-time.

"We've been living in the shadows [of the Rangers] for most of my career," said Brodeur, 41 and in his 20th season. "Just the fact that team is so old and has so much history and fan base is so broad compared to what we have, but I think the quality of the people following us is tremendous and you see it more as the years goes by."

Devils center Adam Henrique is looking forward to taking in the setting and atmosphere.

"It's Yankee Stadium," he said. "Knowing the history that is there; it's going to be neat to be in there and see the facilities and be part of that. Playing in front of thousands is going to be pretty cool too. It's neat that a lot of our families will be able to take that in as well."

Who's hot:

Rangers: Rangers forward Rick Nash is on a four-game point streak and has scored 10 goals in the past 10 games.

Devils: Jagr has a three-game point streak, notching two goals and two assists over that stretch. He leads the Devils with 42 points (16 goals).

Injury report:

Rangers: New York forward Derek Dorsett (broken fibula) is on injured reserve.

Devils: Devils defenseman Peter Harrold (foot) has been practicing but remains on injured reserve.

LOL Schneider is not even playing. Looks like his bad attitude and dressing room divisiveness is not winning him that spot he thought he had locked up lol

This is literally right in the OP:

"Brodeur has started just two of the past eight games as Cory Schneider has been on a tear.

Schneids has started 8 of the last 10 games.

Who cares if he starts the Stadium game or not?

I like it better as Brodeur/Lundqvist anyways. That's where the rivalry is.

I know this is just stirring up trouble but Schneider is now at the top of the league in goaltending stats. If he keeps up his tear and puts the Devils in the playoffs he could win the Vezina.

The start of today's Stadium Series NY game has been delayed due to glare on the ice. Start time for today's game changed to 10:38 AM PT.

Unfortunately it gives us an extra 30 minutes to listen to the 'mental dribblings' of Healy and Stock .. what a joke CBC has become.. :picard: .. where is Cherry in his 'clown suit'?. and Ron at center ice giving Brad Richardson the 'tongue'? .. opportunities missed I tell ya .. make it a REAL outdoor 'spectacle' .. Vince McMahon for Chairman NOW!!!!!
