[Rumour] Canucks interested in Ray Whitney

Recommended Posts

According to Bruce Garrioch:

Dallas general manager Jim Nill will have to decide what direction he wants to take at the deadline. Several teams have called to express interest in centre Ray Whitney — including Phoenix, Los Angeles and Vancouver.

Garrioch is as annoying as Ecklund, and as reliable a source imo.

This is stupid stuff for a whole mess of reasons.

First of all Whitney is not a "centre" (he has taken 1 draw this season) - he is a small left winger, something the Canucks have literally no need for.

Add to that the fact that Gillis has unambiguously stated his complete lack of interest in rentals - and that Whitney's play has fallen off drastically (he is 41 after all), and I'd put this rumour in a class with throwing random crap at a wall to see how much sticks.

The combination of 4.5 million cap hit, declining production, weak underlying numbers, lack of physicality, bad giveaway ratio, and poor fit... not surprised Garrioch sees a rumour opportunity here.

Oh, Gillis, it's blatant that the team is just not deep enough and bandaid additions like Whitney are a waste of cap space.

I'm all for the abysmal play right now and see where we last.

We could try and sell one of our main players for a prospect and/or pick but we shouldn't try and make a push. Just do a proper rebuild.

Something both Garrioch and Eklund need to learn: GILLIS WILL NOT TRADE FOR RENTALS.

Many of the posters in the Archair GM section of this forum seem to think that Gillis will ask players to waive their NTCs even after he has repeated said he wouldn't do that. So why can't those guys make up proposals, just like CDC does, that aren't likely too happen too?
