Ritchie's offense isn't that great. He seems to use his size very well to facilitate but that huge advantage in juniors will be minimized in the NHL.

I know people like to point to his 5 goal games as an impressive feat (which it was) but it also causes me a little concern. I like to see prospects producing regularly throughout the season (I am not saying that Ritchie didn't). But if you take away that one night he has 34 goals in 61 games. Compare that to a guy like 8 months younger like Virtanen and it is not as impressive. If you look at how many goals Ritchie scored as a 17 year old it is far less than Virtanen.

Hard to imagine Linden sells this as his plan to FULL.AUTONOMY.

Lol fun to imagine, but not fun to imagine a year worse then this one again and how the fans/ticketholders would react

season ticket holders like us would all spirt wood if those players were all shipped out for high draft picks such as Ritchie Virtanen Cornel Demko Lemieux and prospects such as Etem

Us ticket holders and fans have been through worse. THAT package above gives us hope and exxcitement for the future.

With shipping out Edler Kesler Hansen and most others we still have a decent core and can sign gap filler players until our high picks develop.

Us fans can handle a year or 2 of sucking lemons as ling as it gives us yet another high pick and it is properly utilized

My 2 cents.....

This thread is hilarious.

The only way to settle it is to have a prospect-off. A 3 day challenge between Ritchie and Virtanen featuring Wipeout like obstacle courses, survivor like problem solving challenges and the finale of an intense Redbull Crashed Ice downhill course.

May the best teenage hockey player win!

THAT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS Lol

Look guys you can't stuff a ton of big guys with skill on a line and expect success. From the type of prospects we have right now, Ritchie and Virtanen are redundant. We have snipers (Jensen and Shinkaruk), two-way forwards (Horvat and Gaunce) and we have power forwards (Kassian and Matthias). We are missing a true playmaker in case Schroeder doesn't pan out. Our need right now is someone who has the potential to replace the Sedins in scoring. Ritchie and Virtanen do not have that ability. They will most likely be 40-60 point players. We need someone like Ehlers who can pot 80 points a season.

You can't sit there and tell be that being as large as he is doesn't help him a lot when he's playing against underdeveloped kids.

Yea it compliments him but he doesnt rely on it which someone said will evaporate in the nhl.

If anything the fact he can find open ice and still use his size when needed is a testament to him.

The potential for "rigging" is just built into the methodology of the lottery.

Teams can only move down one position by rules of the draft. There also isn't the ability to move up except for the very slim chance for #1. This makes it a really weird case where one draw fixes all the other results.

First, you pick #1. Say it's Florida. Then Buffalo HAS to get #2. Then no one else moves by definition since they can't move up or down.

The basically means the system has VERY few variables and is extremely fixable. The point is, this implementation speaks to the shadiness of the NHL more than any particular result.

why is it shady that the worst teams have the best chance at number 1?

lol....if you finish sixth its not rigged because you have a tough time moving, the whole idea is to bring more parity to the league by helping weaker teams get the best players so that the league as a whole improves

lmao typical woe is me canucks fan, its rigged because we didn't get number! lol

There is tons too like about Ritchie. And I wouldn't be disappointed if we drafted him. But his offensive skill leaves more to be desired IMO.

The only other thing I worry about is his weight. He will likely need to drop 15 pounds or so for his conditioning to be NHL level. This isn't a huge deal. But ideally you want young guys to put on muscle. As anyone with bodybuilding experience knows it is difficult to lose fat and put on muscle at the same time.

I liked what i heard about virtanen from his gm. We still need to pixk ritchie and trade kesler to anaheim n grab the 10th and etem

They don't need a 2nd line center, they have Bonino who had 6 more points than Kesler.

No forward over the height of 6'0 has scored so far in the playoffs.

But hey the two 17 year olds Kapanen & Nylander, aswell as Ehlers (all 5'11 or 6'0) are all small busts right?

:bigblush:

Edit: oh wait Bennett just scored, (6'2, there's the first one) before that 6/8 FWD's to score were 5'11 or under.

And the other one (aside from Bennett) is Stammer at (6'0)

I know enough to figure out that we're wasting a 6th pick if we're selecting Kapanen with it. So many better options, including one of the top-5 that may fall. Jeez.

Virtanen's shot is rated A or A-. It's not bad. If Ritchie's is better, hey, well GET him because he's what, Brett Hull? I don't see it.

Anyway, i'm fine with either pick, but i'd go with Virtanen because he's quite noticeably faster. That's where I see some major potential being realized. Through the speed, combined with the size and toughness. Perhaps stop hating Virtanen, as he'll be a good-great player in the NHL.

Why do you think that? Not criticizing I'm just curious.

I think Virtanen will become a solid Kesler like offensive player, who will put up 20-25+ goals & 40-50 points, a solid NHLer, but I don't see him as someone we should take at 6 especially when you consider some of the other players available.

Kapanen is one of the best two-way forwards in this draft, and one of the best skaters in the draft if not the best (in the top 10 range of the draft). He has skill to go with his top notch speed and he is solid defensively, if he adds some weight then he should be a good top 6 winger.

Weight is one of the only concerns for most players in this draft and most of the drafted players that need to add weight, add weight it is how they grow. They are still kids, they are going to get bigger people seem to forget.

Just because Richie is 6'3 and 230 pounds doesn't mean he's the only power forward in the draft or big player, players will grow so don't let size at the age of 17/18 be a deciding factor to who we draft.

Just an observation but while watching Perlini's goals from 2013-2014 it seemed like a lot of them were him just standing at the side of the net tapping them in off a set play, so I checked out his stats and 16 of his 34 goals were pp goals.

I know goals are goals and Ovie scored like half of his goals off a one T on the pp.. but just saying Perlini hasn't really wowed me enough to want to take him top 10.
