so it looks like the Canucks will finish 6th or 7th worst.....based on the lottery system does anyone know how high the canucks can move up or down they can slide back?

if not, i guess we will all find out on Tuesday when the NHL has the lottery.

they can only slide backk 1 spot in the case that some one behind us, say phoenix for example wins the lottery.. I think our chances at 6th is ~6% at winning the lottery

how many spots can the canucks move up if they win the lottery? 4?

Whoever wins the lottery drafts 1st.

ok....yea i just looked into it and they changed that in 2013...it used to be that whoever wins the lottery could only move up 4 spots.

From 1995 to 2012, the team winning the draft lottery could rise no more than four positions in the draft order.

As of 2013, all 14 lottery teams have a chance to win the first overall selection in the draft.

I would like to see us trade kesler to anahiem for vatenen, 26th pick and 8th pick, we would draft 4 of the top 36 players in the draft

At that point with ours i'd grab me some

Dal Colle, Draistl or Virtanen

And with Ottawas Ritchie, with Anaheims Ritchies Line Mate right now and with our 2nd hoping he's still around Thatcher Demko or Lemieux

If Lemieux is around for our second round pick that would be a steal. He's good player with size.

really hoping we can pick either a good Dman in the second or one

of the skilled forwards drops from the 20's of the first round to us in the second.

Eric Corniel?

Lemieux I doubt makes it past Colorado

I knwo I find it unlikely as well but that is where Anaheims pick could come in and if Thatcher Demko is available in the 2nd we could nab him instead.

I am more and more sold on keeping line mates together from junior teams that have had such success as chemistry like that cannot be taught

After watching those Perlini highlights, it seems that the TMLs got their own third-round steal in Verhaeghe last year. While I don't see us taking him in the 6-7 spot, would love to somehow get McCann - he looks to be something special.

D men I desire from this draft include

Collins, Vanier, Mantha and Ollatts Mattson

All huge bodies and all solid D men with mobility

I can see a lot of people are very fond of Nylander. My comment was based on historical results.

From 2013 Draft to 1993 Draft (20 drafts) only 2 European skaters under 6 feet have went in the top 12:

Mikael Granlund (9th, 2010) from the Finnish League --- NHL Totals: Games:90 Goals:10 Assists:39 Points: 49 (Still very young)

Stanislav Chistov (5th, 2001) from the Russian League --- NHL Totals: Games:196 Goals:19 Assists:42 Points: 61

20 years x 12 top picks = 240 only two of which have been European skaters under 6 feet. Also none of them have come from the Swedish League.

Things that might be worth taking into consideration: This is a pretty weak draft, so Nylanders high-end potential might be worth gambling for. He could be a 1st line center in the NHL if he pans out. Plenty of scouts have stated that his high-end skill is as good as anyones in this draft. Nylander is 5'11, 170lbs, and he's 17 years old, not too shabby, will probably grow 1 inch at least.

Also, is it really necessary to look historically at JUST european players, and not just all players shorter than 6 feet that has been drafted in top10 ? You do realize that both Finland and Sweden are countries with a population of less than 10 million? Yakupov went 1st overall 2 years ago, and he's 5'11, he's also Russian if that matters.

This is a guy that was a projected top5 pick prior to this season. He finished off strong playing against men in the swedish 2nd league, where players like Filip Forsberg, OEL, Burakovsky all originated from. None of them were close to Nylanders point production this year. IMO, there aren't a lot of safe picks outside the top5. Therefore i can see a team inside the top10 taking the high-risk/high-reward pick in Nylander.

I'm not arguing that we should take Nylander, but you can tell there's some great potential there. If we get the 6th overall pick, hopefully we'll be able to pick a player from the "big 5". If not, i would take Ritchie/Perlini. I do think Nylander would be an interesting pick though, a pick i would be perfectly fine with. We lack a center with 1st line potential in our system, Nylander would fill that need.

I hope to one day splice quotes together like you do lol

At #6, Im still taking Virtanen. At 17, im sure Canucks developement dudes can point him in the right directions still. Kid loves to score goals and we have so much talent jammed on LW already. Lets get some bslsnce and size on the RW.

If he is gone then Im taking Ritchie. We need the skilled mooks to compete with our division

I still like Ehlers & especially Kapanen more.

Kapanen has more offensive skill than Virtanen, he's got decent size, not as physical but he's got great speed & skating ability like Virtanen, he's got more competitive drive (questions have been asked about Virtanen's character) which will enable him to reach his potential, and I see his potential as higher.

Ehlers is also more skilled, he's right up in that top class as far as offensively ability, and he's not as small as people make him out to be, we could use that kind of skill, we have guys who are big, can skate, can shoot & hit like Virtanen, I don't see alot of guys like Kapanen & Ehlers in our organization.
