There is no way the vase is worth a million, I could make a vase just as good as that for like $100. The museum can afford it anyways, they make tonnes of money, they should just pay me to replace it and buddy should be left alone he was just pushing the envelope and doing something cool. Obviously the art gallery can afford to replace it. They should let him go.

MIAMI - A South Florida artist is facing a criminal charge after police say he smashed a $1 million vase by a Chinese artist at Miami's new art museum to protest what he called its favouritism for international rather than local art.

Maybe they show favouritism of international art because local artists are douchebags who will smash stuff for no reason.

It is suppose to be a 2000 Year old Han Dynasty Vase that WeiWei repainted. I doubt you can get such a vase for $100.

The urn, dating back about 2,000 years to China's Han Dynasty, was one of 16 on display that Ai had dipped in bright industrial paint, making them look like much more recently produced pots. The installation aims to "trigger questions about authenticity and the value and meaning of original artwork," according to the museum's website.

“If you saw the vases on display and the way they were painted there was no way one would think the artist had painted over an ancient artifact. Instead, I thought it was a common clay pot like you would find at H
ome Depot,
frankly.”
