Is it Cup run curse or lockout curse?

Is it the high expectations of the cup runs that turns this team into a nightmare? See horrible teams like after 82 from 84-88, after 94 from 97-99, after 11 starting this year? Or is the curse due to lockouts as was after 95 lockout from 97-99, after 05 lockout in 06, and after 13 lockout in 14?

Or is it both, so we get a double whammy in 97-99 and due for a double whammy now?

Bettman era Canadian cup finalist 'curse.' Which is not so much of a curse as it is a league directive.

Declines, re-tools etc. are inevitable for a lot of cup finals losers, but the Canadian ones in the Bettman era have always made their declines more spectacular with gong show trades and ridiculous on-and-off-ice drama.

Meanwhile, American benefactor teams continue to get the windfall from these Canadian team follies. Pronger and Roy going south for laughable reasons to win cups instantly on their new American teams are prime examples.

The Canucks have delayed this thing as long as they could. It's time to pay the piper. So wait and see which American team(s) benefit(s) here.

Isnt it interesting all 4 runs since 93 (theres been 5 but Ottawa in 2007 excluded, that team didnt have a hope in 07 and lost in 5) went to 7 games yet they all lost? And all had miserable calls against them, with Calgary getting the worst of them all. Might be something here you know.

'09 - Red Wings lose in finals. Haven't been back since.

'10 - Flyers lose in finals. Haven't been back since. Had one horrible season.

'11 - Canucks lose in finals. Follow up with President Trophy following season, but then fell off. Haven't been back since.

'12 - Devils lose in finals. Awful following season, look to miss playoffs again.

Teams losing in the finals often have a difficult time retooling on the fly. The Flyers made some bold moves getting rid of Richards, Carter, and JVR, and have brought in Schenn's, Voracek, 1st rounder (Couturier), Simmonds, Downie, Streit, Lecavalier. It's not easy to stay on top.

Hell, look at San Jose. Sure they are still competitive, but if they don't win a Cup while they have Thornton, Boyle and Marleau at the tail end of their prime, I wouldn't bank on them winning 5 years from now. Yes, they have Hertl, Couture, and Pavelski, but those three can't win a cup themselves. San Jose is as good as they will ever be.

So as it relates to the Canucks, I don't know if it's so much a Cup run curse, which I think is just another thing the media has created so they have something to talk about. No, I think it's just that only two teams get to make it to the finals every year and it's really difficult to replicate that year after year. Look at the Penguins. Sure, they really competitive this year, but I really don't see them making it to the finals this year once the playoffs come and they have to tighten up defensively. Letang is gone for the season, Martin may not be back in time, and Fleury is a huge question mark during the playoffs.

Teams are getting better all the time, and teams that lose in the SCF have a history of not changing things the next few years as they believe their core group that got them there in the first place can put them over the top. It's not easy.

No, its the "Canucks are playing like complete garbage" curse. I think we have been such a good team for so long people arent used to seeing a team lose as much as the nucks have. The fact is though, its just not their year. What im interested in seeing is how they bounce back next year. Its obvious moves are gonna be made. What moves exactly? Hard to say but its obvious the canucks are not the same team they were in 2011.
